DOPPO Gelataria — Restaurant in Coimbra

After visiting Doppo for a galão and cheesecake ice cream, I was astounded by both items and can highly recommend this establishment. The cheesecake had large graham cracker chunks and real blueberries, not to mention the intensely creamy flavor. As I initially bit into it, I realized it would be my favorite ice cream here in Portugal. The decedent cheesecake flavor, along with the crunch of the fresh cones, paired perfectly together like a glass of Port wine and aged cheese. Moreover, the latte had a rich, deep flavor which contrasted with the watery taste of my home Keurig coffee. My daughter and I have been in Portugal for a week and have tried quite a few gelato places and Stumbled upon Doppo on a rainy night as it was close to our hotel. We were greeted by Nuno who helped us with our order and then proceeded to have a great conversation about the area here he grew up in and the history of it. And then to top it off the gelato was amazing ! Had the best dark chocolate gelato which is really hard to find. It's not a place that has all the flavors out on full display, uncovered, which is probably why it makes it so good. Also had toasted coconut and basil pineapple. Between the gelato, the staff and the coffee, I can't choose what I love the most about this place.

I am a serious gelato lover, one of my favourite desserts all year round. I have lived in Italy for a while and have tried a variety of them.

I have to say that the gelato from DOPPO is one of my favourite ones. Every flavour is well thought and interesting combinations are created with seasonality in mind. No matter which one you choose, you'll be satisfied.

Other than the incredible gelato, the hospitality of this place is one of a kind and the staff always makes you feel welcome and eager to return.
