A tribute to South American cuisine. I went late in the afternoon with my wife and we started with 2 cocktails, which were both delicious. The Piña Sour was particularly great, and one of the best cocktails I ever tasted. We followed up with shrimp tacos as a starter, and these were amazing! The shrimp was cooked to perfection when compared to most places that overcook it into a pasty mess. Acidic, sweet, and smoky flavours from the mango ceviche and salsa macha combined with the shrimp into a symphony of flavor and texture. For a main, we went with the wagyu rump steak (picanha). We were curious to try the Ramo Grande meat - which came from a single specific cow and will be rotated with a different meat once it's over - but the portion was too large for us to eat after the tacos. The meat had a perfect sear and was medium rare on the inside. Very tender with no nerves or unevenly grilled parts. We had white rice, black beans and a salad as sides and everything was amazing. All accompanied by a really smooth red wine that the sommelier helped us choose. The service was amazing from the start, with lots of help choosing food and drinks that pair well. The atmosphere is quiet, warm and earthy; perfect for a quiet conversation-filled evening. For those seeking an elevated and authentic taste of South America, look no further. Highly recommended.

Excellent Latin American gastronomic experience – it delivered exactly what it promised. The ingredients are of outstanding quality, especially the wide selection of meats, which alone is worth the visit if you want to taste the best meat in Coimbra. The tacos and the ceviche are also a must-try! The cocktails are excellent and pair perfectly with the food. Service is exceptional, and the atmosphere is refined and welcoming – truly an oasis in an otherwise neglected area, mostly filled with tourist-trap restaurants lacking any real quality. A remarkable contrast in the heart of Coimbra’s downtown.

The kitchen at Maiz does MAGIC. Seriously, this should be a Michelin star restaurant, because not only is their food mind-blowingly good, they deconstruct the classics and put them back together with their own flair. I am now forever spoiled - once I have tasted their al pastor I cannot eat mediocre tacos ever again. I would give them 10 stars if I could. Such incredible dining experience we just had, and the staff were all so warm and welcoming. You can tell that everyone working there puts their heart and soul into the place.

We had an absolutely wonderful experience at Maiz gastropub! From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel incredibly welcome — warm, friendly, and attentive without being intrusive. It’s clear they care about creating a great experience for their guests.

The interior is stylish and cozy, with a relaxed atmosphere that makes you want to linger. Everything is thoughtfully designed and creates the perfect setting for a great meal.

As for the food — it was exceptional. We ordered the ceviche, shrimp tacos, and the Angus steak, and each dish was bursting with authentic flavor and beautifully presented. The shrimp tacos were especially memorable — fresh, perfectly seasoned, and balanced with just the right amount of spice. The steak was tender, juicy, and cooked exactly to our preference.

Overall, Maiz is a true gem — a place where you can enjoy high-quality, delicious food in a welcoming and stylish environment. We’ll definitely be back. Highly...
