Restaurante O Açude — Restaurant in Coimbra

Very disappointed with my last visit . It used to be one of my favorite places to eat in coimbra , not anymore . A lot have change . .

Negative points : Gizzards of the starters were cold we order acorda which was flavorless . The prawns seemed off and it was cold . Made a complain and the chef came to the table with arrogance asking what was the problem. I have explain the situation with my colleague as we were not happy and the chef kept saying that he has tried the dish and nothing was wrong . We send back the dish and decided not to have anything else for main course as we were frustrated with the situation . We order dessert . At the end we order the bill , after we send back the dish and not even having the course, we got charge for it , After send it back and complaint that it was not good (which was not) . Imagine the how bad can the situation for someone who have a lot of expectation and want to have a good time and a good experience and leave disappointed .

The only plus were the desserts .

Come on guys you did a terrible job! If this were London I would have refused to pay you. I very rarely give low scores. The food was cold and the service was atrocious. We were the first ones in so you had nobody to look after but us, so what went so terribly wrong? You had plenty of staff in so that was not the problem. To begin with someone came to our table and opened and served us still water which we had not asked for. I usually request sparking water in any case. This was very quickly followed by two of you bringing plates full of cold meats and cheeses and bread which we had not only not asked for but my wife had clearly advised you that she is a vegetarian. You acknowledged the same. Why did you serve her a plate with meat? Why was the food cold? Why were the chips cold for that matter? Terrible end to a beautiful day in Coimbra for us. The ironic part was that you were recommended to us by the hostess of the place we are staying at and she said that this is one place where we will not...

We had driven past a few times and thought we must try this place…and now we have. Lots of positives - good service, friendly staff and food was served quickly. Sadly though some negatives. Gastro style food has to work and spaghetti and curry flavoured chicken doesn’t work. There is a reason they serve curry with rice and pasta with good meat and seasoning because it works! Don’t change the basics. Despite having the meal of the day we were charged for the bread, and the water, and the wine leaving a rather hefty bill for the two of us. We liked the attempt to be different or even a little upmarket but it didn’t work on either count. Small toilets another negative but let’s not...
