Taberna Laura — Restaurant in Coimbra

Very friendly personnel. When we arrived the kitchen had closed for mid day break. They offered to serve us what they could at that time. The 2 dishes we ordered were excellent. The cod fish was served with a smoked meat burger that I thought was fish. Great taste and combination. Served with the vegetables it was a full course meal. The pork and pawns sounded peculiar but once we tried it we could not stop eating. It had a rich gravy made from the meat broth and wine which combined delicately with the fine tasting grilled prawns. We ordered a big green salad, french fries that were cut round discs extra bread for the Devine gravy 4 bottles of beer and a glass of Verde wine (sparkling fresh wine) and paid 54€. New place in downtown Coumbra — down the stairs off a plaza, down some steps to the right. My wife and I are from New York and appreciate good food. We met the husband and wife owners Gonzalvo & Cristina who were very friendly and welcoming. We had a lovely meal of beef medallions on a laurel stick and sautéed squid & shrimp — both delicious. Friends who later joined us had an omelet and pasta dish which they said was lovely. We shared a fruity and fresh bottle of vinho verde! We ended the meal sharing shots of ginga (cherry liquor)...

We just happened to turn a corner and saw this place. Their sign said tomahawk steak for two with potatoes and vegetable €39. Well, we couldn’t pass it up . We enjoyed delicious wine. Our meal was excellent. They didn’t even have to season it just the course of sea salt. They gave brought the flavor out so nicely.
