We first went to Shalimar after looking fir an Indian restaurant in Lagos by our teenage son's request. The nearest one to us which had decent reviews was Shalimar. Firstly, thees photos on Trip Advisor don't do the restaurant any justice. The restaurant is beautiful, clean, authentically style in an Indian manner and very clean. It's situated just up from the main street so it's not too busy outside. The warm welcome we got from all staff was amazing. Friendly, warm, and knowledgeable on the food served. We ordered starters and mains. My son and I both ordered onion bahjis and my husband ordered shish lamb. All were served with a smile and all were soooo tasty and authentic. For our mains, I ordered Chicken Bhuna, husband got lamb Rigan Josh, and our son had chicken jalfrezi. At the time of order, we were asked the spice we would like. Although my husband and son like spicy usually, they chose medium due to not knowing the restaurant's specific recipes. . We ordered pilau rice and garlic naans too. Wow... The food came and we weren't disappointed! The quality of the meat was tremendous and the blend of warm spices building up in our mouths was amazing. The service we had to accompany the food was so warm and friendly, so much so, that we visited again during our week in Lagos. 2nd visit was even better! The staff remembered us, so we were welcomed like friends rather than n just customers. We got tye same starters as our 1st visit but changed the mains. I had a medium hot chicken jalfrezi, our din had a hot jalfrezi, and my husband had a hot chicken tandoori maali. Wow, again, all were amazing! The staff told my son that if the hot was too much that they could help him and they checked on us during the meal, to make sure the heat wasn't too much. We spoke to owners after our meal who told us they'd been running their restaurant for 20 years! Their experience shows as dies their warmth for their customers. So much better than the nearby restaurants who have only been there a few years. We left the restaurant feeling like we had made friends. Thankyou Shalimar! Jo...
Read moreA great place to eat Indian cuisine. We had the vegetarian starters which came with two delicious dips. As a main dish I had the butter chicken (medium) and my husband had the Chicken Tikka with special sauce (hot). Both were very delicious 🤤 I also got a little bit of hot sauce to make mine more spicy. The portions were quite big, I took a doggie bag home. The Mango Lassi was also very good. Service was very friendly and quick. We sat inside and liked the atmosphere. All in all a very good experience and we would...
Read moreAmerican beware! More sugar than expected in American Indian food. Indian cuisine varies according to region and ingredients. A lot of American Indian food is north indian and therefore is less sweet. Indian cuisine near the coast, and Bangladeshi food, offset the use of salt water in their cooking by adding sugar. Portugal is a sea country and all the water is salt, not river water. So they offset it with sugar. The food was amazing as were the prices, just know that it will shock your...
