Probably the best Indian restaurant that we have ever been to. Really good starters and a nice atmosphere! Atmosphere: This restaurant kind of saved our evening. The streets of Lagos are very narrow and busy in the evening, which means that the restaurants do not have much space to put their tables out. Therefore, it can be that from time to time people bump into you or the table at which you are sitting. This restaurant, on the other hand, is located in a larger square with a fountain. Therefore, in the evening, you can also see artists performing live music and other shows. Food: My boyfriend and I love Indian food and eat it a lot in our home country. We both agree that it was the best restaurant we have ever eaten in. One reason for this is the starters. In other restaurants, they are often the same and not well put together. In this restaurant, however, they are original and yet traditional. Our recommendation would be 85, 7, 8, 12 and any naan bread you like. As a main course we had rice, garlic naan, number 71 (with paneer really yummy) and mango chicken. The latter was the fruitiest curry ever - if you like mango give it a try. Service: It seems like the restaurant is mostly run by one family, which is why ordering the „chefs choice“ is a good idea (Many family members have tried it). All waiters were really attentive and nice. Money: As you can see we ordered a lot and with tips, drinks and dessert included we payed 70€ together. We would love to take this restaurant back home with us. :D

Beautiful and clean restaurant in old town Lagos that we passed walking through town and decided to stop in for dinner. The food was average, lacking in flavor. For a starter we ordered the Onion Bhaji, which were shaped like flat patties, but still very good, especially with the dipping sauces. For our meal, my partner and I both ordered the Matar Paneer with Boiled Rice. The Matar Paneer tasted very flat, with the curry flavor almost non-existent. The sauce was creamy and the paneer was fresh. The spice level for heat was very mild. Overall, we enjoyed the meal even with the light flavors. We did not order Naan.

As actual Indians who have tasted authentic Indian food in India and in Europe all our lives, our experience at The Royal Indian Cuisine was incredibly disappointing. This was honestly the worst Indian food we’ve ever had.

We ordered the chicken biryani, which was more like a mildly spiced pulav—completely lacking the depth, aroma, and complexity of a real biryani. The kadai chicken tasted like plain tomato purée with some boneless chicken tossed in. There was no sign of the rich spices or preparation that make this dish special.

When we raised our concerns, we were told that the food is “adapted to European palates.” That’s not an excuse for bland, uninspired food. We live in Munich and have tried other Indian restaurants that, while not 100% authentic, still manage to deliver flavor and respect the essence of Indian cuisine.

Please do not judge Indian food based on this restaurant. Indian cuisine is rich, flavorful, and incredibly diverse—this place does not do it justice.

Also worth noting: they seem to care more about accumulating positive reviews than serving good food. Just remember—reviews can be bought, but taste cannot be faked.

Avoid if you’re looking for a real Indian...
