OK service except one terrible waitress who almost ruined our night. We went there for the flaming chorizos, which turned out to be a disappointing experience.
We were seated to a small table as a party of two but it was super inclined. We ordered a bottle of wine and and a bottle of water. Upon consulting the waiter we ordered a plate of olives, flaming chorizos and shrimp. First thing, the food arrived and there was no place to put the dishes. The busboy looked very helpless, so i grabbed the two bottles for him to place the dishes. He did that, lit the alcohol on the chorizos then tried to leave. We stopped him and asked for an icebucket or something else to put the bottles down. He said they don’t have buckets and left, while I had a bottle in each hand and table fully packed. We stacked a few plates on top and sorted it out but as you can imagine there was barely room on the table anymore.
Well that brings me to the flaming chorizos. Since the table was inclined, all of the alcohol pooled to one side and the flames were higher than they should. The oil had been splashing, not what you would expect from an open fire at a restaurant but to a point that I had to stand up and move, and the customers next table were burned. We were supposed to flip the chorizo every minute but with the table being full, there was hardly room to move, so the sausage kept on dropping in the alcohol. It got quite burned on the flame side and undercooked on the other. At that point I asked the waitress to assist us. Asked what the fuel is or it’s safe to consume if the sausage was soaked in it. She said it was etylalcohol and nothing else. Then I repeated whether it would be safe to consume. She said and I repeat, “everybody eats it, if you don’t like it don’t eat it” and rushed back. Speechless, I went to ask for the manager, who in fact was helpful by deleting the order.
We have seen parties of two seated on a 4 seater table without incline, enjoying the chorizo, so I guess it could have been a nice experience. Just make sure to sit on a larger table and not on an incline because the staff sure won’t warn you ahead of...
Read moreWe were looking for some traditional style food and came across this place . The place is decorated in a modern contemporary style with the food to match. The staff were friendly and well in formed and the food was produced by people with a passion and a really sense of flavour We ordered 6 dishes from the tapas menu and each one was a joy to look at and amazing to taste. We ordered the goats cheese, octopus salad , and tuna salsa which was so finally balanced we could of just eaten more . Attention to detail is a thing that ranks high in this place and the tuna topped with sesame and nigella seeds with finally chopped chillies was just delicious . The wine recommended was a real treat also ( fat baron ) which matched the strong and subtle flavours of the tapas which just topped the night off . The staff speak lots of different languages and our hostess ( pinky ) was fun, polite and passionate about the food as staff should be in a place like this. All the food that came from the kitchen looks amazing so if want to treat yourself with delights for your taste buds then you will...
Read moreWe visited this place twice during our holiday in Lagos. The restaurant's first impression is that it's modern, clean, nicely decorated and has a well-balanced menu.
Many places in Lagos offer any possible variation of all the different cuisines of the world, which results in poor quality of food. Barbosa is a complete opposite of that!
The first time we visited this place, we only came in for some beers and cocktails. I was impressed by how welcome and well-spoken the staff was. Furthermore, the cocktails were reasonably priced, and I can say that they were of superb quality.
On the second day, we came down for some food, and we had a veal burger, blazing chorizo and a bottle of wine with some olives and rustic bread. All of the food was amazingly seasoned, nothing was overdone, and the veal patty was perfectly medium rare.
To summarize, it's definitely a hidden gem in the middle of city center of Lagos that's worth visiting not only for best quality cocktails in Lagos, but also for the food and superb service!
Definitely coming back again...
