Audrey's Bistro is a nicely furnished upmarket restaurant in Alfama. The interior is modern-posh but not distasteful. The dining areas are split in two separate areas with a bar lounge between them. Tables are set with white linen and linen napkins. The atmosphere is more distinguished, as are the prices. That might be the reason why mostly foreigners are dining here. The menu offers a small selection of starters, mains and desserts. We opted for bread, spreads and olives for starters. Bread selection was good, the accompanying olives were ok, the butter with herbs nothing special, the tuna fish spread was nice but not special either, the oil&balsamic was of good quality. Separate knives for the first course were not served. The white wine was served irritatingly in red wine glasses. Unusual for a wannabe upmarket restaurant. The Coke drinks were served in cans with an accompanying glass. For the main course we had salmon, cod, burger and tenderloin steaks. The salmon was good and tasty, but no extraordinary streaks to it. The burger with mushrooms, cheese, bacon and sauce was of good quality and delicious. Chips were of average quality. No condiments were offered. The tenderloin steaks were of good quality, the mash with truffles and asparagus tasted nicely. The cod tasted nicely, but the potatoes and spinach were tasteless and bland. The accompanying sauce nothing special and not really complementing. For dessert we had pistachio pavlova: whipped cream with meringue, couple of berries and chopped pistachios on top. Looked nice but tasted as you would expect it to taste: quite boring, no twists. Espressos were mediocre in taste. Staff was very friendly and approachable, but we were served criss-cross from all angles.
Considering the high priced food and drinks, the distinguished atmosphere and surroundings, the whole dining experience was good but not good enough. Due to the fact that this place wants to be more exquisite, attention to detail is missing on various levels: e.g. starting with tasteless sides, mal-trained staff, desserts not worth mentioning, inadequate pricing policy. More pretense than performance. It is a wannabe upmarket restaurant. There is surely better places in Lisbon for the same amount of money spent.
Finally the optional tip on the bill was already included without mentioning, so no need...

Read moreAudrey's Café is a wonderful sight. The design feels like a mix from all over the world, but the food is definitely based in this amazing city of Lisbon. You are welcomed as soon as you walk through the door. Audrey's Café is a place that you have to visit, and you must plan to spend some time there. It won’t do it justice to rush in and out.
My friend and I were in the city one Saturday lunchtime and just happened to stumble past the café. Being a Saturday, we decided to go with a whim and sit outside and enjoy the good weather. We were not disappointed.
We were both hungry, so decided that we would order a few dishes and share each. For starters we went for bread, olives and pate, croquettes, xlams braised with white wine, garlic and coriander and then the Fresh salmon marinated in ginger, lime and vinaigrette. They were brought to our table by the attentive waiting staff. The service was excellent throughout.
All of the main courses sounded great, but we had to settle for two. Being seafood lovers, these were the grilled octopus served with sweet potato and spinach and the Mozambican tiger giant prawns served over a bed of lime risotto, drizzled with aromatic butter. Both were sensational from first bite to last.
Our sweet tooth was engaged and we looked for chocolate brownie with strawberries and lime sorbet and then upside-down cheesecake to satisfy it. These dishes were the right balance between flavour and sweetness. A wonderful way to round off the meal. And we...
