My family and I had an 8pm reservation. Last night in Lisbon and in Portugal, and decided to go to this restaurant due to its high reviews for quality of food and service, and its proximity to the main square and waterfront. Big mistake!! I wish we had gone somewhere else, as the Baia do Peixe neither lived up to the expectations, price or time commitment.
It took 10 minutes for our server to even come over and talk to us, because he was arguing with table next to us and then didn't show any concern for us. Had to track him down at hostess stand with manager to even initiate any service.
After taking our order, it took 35 minutes before we could get drinks and appetizers delivered. Only got those, because I tracked down the manager to air my concerns with poor service. Then took another 30+ minutes to get our main entrees/food.
And took another 30 minutes to track down our server for desserts. Overall, the food was average at best. Our food was consistently brought out cold, which leads me to believe that our server let it sit in the kitchen, while we waited.
The server never apologized for the poor service, Neither the server or the manager offered any adjustment to the bill and free desserts or anything. Net, we spent 135 Euros for a dining experience that I would say was the weakest and lowest valued of all the meals we had in Lisbon and Porto during our time in Portugal.
I would not recommend the restaurant. If you get a poor server or meal, they will not care nor seek to make it right. There are plenty of other options available to you in the area. I suggest you explore one of...
Read moreThe food was ok. Customer service however, was terrible. It is summer, they sat everyone outside. We noticed they have an indoor section upstairs where the toilets are, fully air-conditioned and asked the manager if we can sit there — manager said no, this section is not open. Fine, so we continued sitting outside, ordered our food and ate.
As we ate, so many flies started to come and sit on our food, particularly the crab and it got really uncomfortable. Soon it became unbearable and impossible to eat while constantly fanning away the flies and I told a waitress to please explain the situation to the manager and ask to move inside.
She came back with an accusatory tone that I have already asked the manager before and got my answer already. This was before the fly situation had happened and apparently they do not care about customer comfort at all. We already had our food , all we wanted was to sit inside so we could eat our food comfortably. We explained that there was no more service needed and therefore no staff would have needed to come up for us.
In my honest opinion, it is ridiculous to force customers to sit outside with flies and try to enforce your “we don’t work inside” rule while the manager himself and part of the staff stands fully comfortable in air-conditioned area, away from flies. Also how does it make sense to keep the bathroom and entire sitting area upstairs fully air conditioned without allowing customers to enjoy.
Terrible customer service,...
Read moreAfter seeing 4,6 stars on Google I expected at least decent food. Unfortunately everything was not tasty and not fresh! We ordered starters, soup and a plate of sea food. In fact we were surprised how fast the food was served. Unfortunately it was because the sea food was mostly served cold, some was only heated but prepared much earlier so it didn’t taste well. All was hard to bite an chew. Frankly it was the worse seafood I’ve ever had. The waiters served the starters and main course all together an completely forgot the soup. When we finally got the fish soup it was so awful that we left it barely touched. The waiter came few times to explain that it’s a traditional soup and it is normal that it has no taste which was disrespectful. We have had this soup before in other restaurants and we always loved it so we now what taste we should expect. The fresh squeezed orange juice we ordered for the kids had ice cubes which we specifically asked not to add to the juice. Also to me it had water added. It was really surprising that the soup which we didn’t eat at all was added to the bill. In good restaurants if the client doesn’t like something and doesn’t eat it it’s not charged. Apart from that I must say that the waiters were trying hard to be helpful and nice but they clearly lack training. Also the bathroom was a problem. A long line of men and women waiting in the line to the same not very clean bathroom was not...
