I was gutted when Logrodouro in the neighbourhood closed (although it is now a cool recylced/upcycled/handmade studio where you can still actually purchase a beer!) as it was close to my house and regularly had live jazz. Luckily DeBru has stepped into fill the void in this part of town with it's blend of good beer and live music.
The space itself is not really welcoming. It looks modern, big glass windows, lots of flat, hard surfaces and a bit too white for my liking but once you get in all is well. There is always a nice selection of beers on tap at fair prices. Try before you buy is an option if you aren't sure what you want and the helpful, friendly bar staff will also guide you towards something you will enjoy.
There is some makeshift seating outside and people spill onto the street when the weather allows or the smoking urge gets too strong to resist. There is also a nice upstairs section which I've been to for a private birthday event which overlooks the rest of the bar and is usually accessible.
When I first visited this place the owner mentioned they had a basement which they were converting into an event space as well which I just presumed would be a tiny affair. Let me tell you it is a cavern! I checked it out for one of the Thursday jazz sessions and was well impressed. The owners have played with bending wood to smooth the acoustics and it's worked a treat. The jazz trio I saw there were a great listen and the sonics in the room were excellent, despite there not being many people to soak up the reflections.
Upstairs the music is always good, leaning towards the black music spectrum and played at a decent level on good equipment so the sound is way better than your average bar.
There are many reasons to come to this bar, great beer, nice staff, good music, live jazz & a nice crowd or if you're lucky all of these on one night and if truth be told probably deserves 4.5 stars....
Read moreGreat co-working space. Realized the wifi in my AirBnB wasn't going to cut it for my video calls and the connection at DeBru was super reliable for a string of calls with video and video-sharing. Cute location with great local artists on display, friendly staff, and cheap beer on tap. Downsides are no AC so it can get hot, especially in the sun, and if there's noise outside it carries in. 10 euro minimum spend to use wifi/electricity for a prolonged period of time. 15 euro minimum for a co-working desk that is a little more tucked away from the noise. Short stays are free. Open late.
5 stars for co-working experience, was a huge relief to get reliable wifi. (We didn't...
Read moreA cosy laidback gem in Saldanha where the doors open in the early evenings and you can stay till late. Donât miss happy hour between 5 and 8.
The craft beer menu is interesting and leaning towards IPAs and ales. We worked our way through the offerings and really enjoyed the Social (Kölsch style blond ale) and Carmen (tropical pale ale). Most of the beers are available in bottles and cans to take home. Non beer drinkers are catered for and Enrique our ace beer cicerone surprised as a really good mixologist serving a great Campari spritz.
If youâre in the area pop in and find your way upstairs for some quiet respite and a...
