We went there for lunch - but arrived at a time when the restaurant was packed! We were told the wait for a table (for 7) would be "10 minutes." It was figurative. It turned out to be 45 minutes! But they took our order while we were still standing outside waiting. Eventually, once seated, the food arrived quickly. Inside the restaurant is spacious, but cramped! Authentic interior decor - very Portuguese. The staff were quick and friendly - though it looked as if they were over-worked! Its a very busy restaurant.
But was it worth the long wait ? Was the food special in any way ? Not really. It was OK - reasonably tasty - but you could get the same quality in any of other restaurants dotted around the area.
So my opinion is that if you want to eat here, go EARLY, or book a table in advance. But (in my opinion) I don't think the lunch menu was in any way special or "gourmet" compared to other...
Read moreThis restaurant is recommended by our host. Many thanks to her! We stayed in Lisbon for six days, and we returned to this restaurant three times and never disappointed us. If you are looking for typical local food in a homely atmosphere, then you are in the right place. Whether you choose fish or meat from the menu, everything is perfect. Our enthusiasm grew even more when we saw that everything that was grilled came from the wood-fired grill. Desserts are also very, very nice and homemade. As there were four of us and we returned 3 times, we almost ate the entire menu. Both fish and meat dishes were perfect! The restaurant is small and very bussy, but the staff is very helpful and friendly. Due to the limited space, it is better to make a reservation in advance or come before the opening. Thank you for the wonderful dinners and the nice time spent in...
Read moreHigh-Quality Food, Mixed Feelings Overall I visited Forninho Saloio in Lisbon with my family, and the experience left me with mixed feelings. The moment you walk in, the display of fresh fish and steak immediately shows their confidence in the quality of their main ingredients, and it doesn’t disappoint – both the fish and steaks were excellent. However, the fries and other sides were quite average, which was a bit of a letdown. The restaurant is a classic "tasca" – a small, local Portuguese spot – but I felt the prices were slightly high for this type of establishment. While the food quality was undeniable, the overall value didn’t fully match my...
