Descarado — Restaurant in Lisbon

I went for a dinner with a friend at Descarado last Saturday, however my experience was disappointing and frustrating, with a background of discrimination… we booked the table for 7pm so we could enjoy the sunset and some starters and cocktails before the main dish, but the waitress was extremely annoying and pushy, asking us for our orders all night long, staying behind the table until we had ordered what she wanted, we really felt forced to have our cocktails and foods earlier than we planned because of the lady. Even when bringing the starters, she said like “you can have only the cocktails and starters, and then order a dessert. No need to order a main dish if you don’t want to”, as they had a hurry to get us out of the table ASAP 😂 Besides that, I personally felt VERY discriminated by the staff, as they were ALWAYS bringing only 1 menu to our table and giving it to my white friend, even when it was requested by me. I even requested a 2nd menu, that the waitress never brought me, and we were one of the only 3 tables outside, so it cannot be explained by the lack of menus, I guarantee. As expected, the bill was also given to her, not put in the center of the table, and when I ordered my dessert (a very small portion) and my friend denied to order one, the waitress brought the food to the center of the table and twice cutlery, as I couldn’t eat alone… For those who cannot understand or see the problem in the situation: it is the same social logic behind the treatment that exists when there are a man and a woman at the table. The control of the table is given to/expected from 1 person, which in this case patriarchally we know who will automatically be assumed as such… so, Racism? Xenophobia against Brazilians? I can’t tell… but I had never noticed/experienced such treatment and feeling of discrimination before, not like that and not for an entire evening, in so many moments. About the food: delicious croquete and octopus salad as starters, and great presentation of cocktails as well. I also ordered octopus for dinner, but didn’t really love it tbh… the onion purée was tasteless and I barely could find the red peppers purée. Also the diced potato was lacking salt, and it was a so little portion of carb… Good Panna Cotta but nothing special, and very small portion. Maybe it is a good place for dancing and drinking, but I strongly don’t recommend...

Having just stopped for lunch here and whilst the food was ok there was an additional charge applied when we paid in excess of 15% on the total bill. A cover charge per person and a cost for what was offered as complimentary bread/slices of ham as we waited for our main course, the cost of this free bread was almost as much as the cost of our main meal. This was an unacceptable charge and when questioned they confirmed that was the cost. We won’t be back and I would recommend others to avoid this restaurant with hidden costs. Go elsewhere and save...

One of the best restaurants in the area and in the harbor. I have visited it several times at different times of the year, always a great view of the bridge and river, great food with quality products, always very friendly and attentive service. I have found some unique dishes here that have become favorites and that I come back for: sea cappuccino soup, beef tartare, black rice with shrimp. In any case, choosing other dishes as well, I always got great quality food and service and had a great time...
