Suckling pig is widely regarded as a delicacy in portuguese cuisine and "Leitão da Bairrada" are the very best.
Eliseu dos Leitões claims to serve the same recipe.
The individual dose is 26€ and comes with chips (see below).
The serving size stayed below my expectations considering the value.
The suckling pig was tasty and well baked but, in truth, as it is the case with most suckling pig recipes, the portions have more crackling skin and fat (specially fat!) than meat considering the early stages of the animal's lifespan.
The hors d'oeuvres (warm bread with garlic butter and croquette with suckling pig filling and garlic/white pepper sauce) were tasty and adjusted to the 2,50-2,80€ price-tag per dose.
For dessert i chose the Morgadinho do Eliseu (also pictured below) and it was decidedly a sound choice to end the meal as the creamy, caramel like sauce mixes with the wallnuts, granting this dessert a perfect blend of solid and creamy texture and flavour.
The staff was polite and treated me cheerfully and pleaseantly even though there was a certain tendency to try to "fatten the bill" by suggesting/imposing things i didn't want (agressive seller strategy).
In the end i payed 48€ and, while the food and the restaurant hold good quality standards i felt a bit dissapointed.
I will give it a solid 3 stars keeping in mind that pork (and suckling pig in particular) never was my cup of tea as far...
Read moreWent for the suckling pig. The food was nice - but nothing to write home about. Honestly, I've made roast pork at home that tasted just as good, with far less effort (and far less expense). Considering the price, I was expecting something a bit more… wow.
The service, however, was absolutely diabolical. Staff were unfriendly and seemed unable to provide basic hospitality. They clearly acknowledged two orders of rice (as part of our meal), but only one ever made it to the table. When I checked, they said the second was "on its way." Did chase the up but it STILL never arrived. We finished eating and ended up cancelling it.
For such a nice-looking establishment, I was flabbergasted by how unwelcoming and uncooperative the staff were. I'd steer very clear and hunt for suckling...
Read moreThis restaurant was suggested to us by the owner of 151 da Rosa while we were chatting about suckling pig in Lisbon.
Their suckling pig was really the best I had had during my 2 week trip in Porto and Lisbon. The skin was crispy and the meat was tender and delicious and not too salty like some restaurants. Their other food like croquettes and pork organs were good too. However their grilled cod fish was just very average to me, it was too hard and dry. It would need improvement.
One more note to suggest to the restaurant. The service of one of the young waiters requires improvement. He has to be more careful and attentive, and more training should be...
