We walked past this place in the afternoon and thought it looked nice so booked a table for the same evening.
In between, we checked the reviews on here and TripAdvisor, and to be honest, we were worried. Really worried.
We considered finding somewhere else, but we thought no, trust our first impression and instincts, give it a chance.. and we are so glad we did - we absolutely loved it!
First up, the staff were lovely, especially the Nepalese lady who brought the menus and cleared the table, and the local waiter who served us. Both were friendly, chatty, happy to talk to us, make recommendations and ask if we needed any help with questions about any of the dishes. They really were so friendly and welcoming.
What worried us from the reviews was how long dishes came out - but happy to report that even though this was a busy Saturday night, the dishes came as expected - no long wait.
We had the wonderfully names "Board of Sausages" to start and some bread and olives. All really good food.
For mains we had the sardines, and two of the cod dishes. The sardines were delicious - moist and juicy, and served with really nice roasted peppers and new potatoes.
The stand out for me however was the Bacalhau à Brás. I'd never had it before, it's something like a cross with kedgeree and Spanish tortilla, and it was so delicious. A really nice char on the onions and potatoes from the pan. We're big fans of kedgeree (a haddock and rice breakfast dish) so this was an absolute winner. I could probably eat that all day every day.
Also had a very nice pastel de nata with port for dessert, it was creamy and the pastry so flaky.
All in all, I'm happy we weren't put off by the reviews, we had a really lovely dinner where everything was tasty, the staff were wonderful, and it all was served at the right time! No complaints, and we would...
Read moreI went to this restaurant a few days ago and was shocked at what a racist lunatic the manager was. My wife and I sat outside and had a nice chat with the waiter about recommendations. After we decided what to order, I left my wife to place the order while I went downstairs to use the toilet inside the restaurant. As I was pulling my pants down at the urinal, the manager suddenly burst through the door and asked if I was sitting outside. Very confused, I replied yes. He asked again, as if in disbelief, and again I said yes. His response: "Ha, we’ll see about that."
I approached him after this bizarre incident and explained that I was, in fact, sitting outside with my wife. He then questioned me again and told me to show him where. At that point, I told him that I was planning to have a nice meal at his restaurant, but because of his arrogance and unapologetic rudeness, I was leaving. He followed me outside and asked me to explain how he was rude. I explained the situation, and he got even more upset, screaming at me in front of all the guests, swearing, and flipping us off as we walked away.
We went to a different restaurant just up the street, and for about 30 minutes, whenever my lovely wife or I looked in that direction, he continued to flip us off. I obviously can’t comment on the food because I wasn’t given the chance to try it. But no customer should ever be spoken to or racially profiled like I was. I understand that some foreigners may use restaurant toilets without ordering, but that is absolutely no excuse to burst into the bathroom, question me repeatedly, and then act like a child when I explain how he was...
Read moreThe food was good, the service was standard for the area. Overall I would have been satisfied with the restaurant had it not been for the manager. Lunch time on a Saturday at 3:21 of July 30 I call the manager over to the table to inform him that the restaurant is pretty, the food is okay and the service standard; yet what caugth my attention was that once I called the restaurant manager to let him know I had found a small roach on top of my table. Just to call his attention to the fact that such a thing was happening, not only was he condescending by telling me: " oh that's just nature", and "I speak eigth languages". Great for him. Such a feat is only achieve by people of great intelligence and habilities which baffles me such a crude and ignorant response to what simply was a call of attention. Little to say that coming all the way from the USA, hearing only good things about the place and being treated, by the manager nonetheless in such disrespectful, condescending, uncomfortable manner not only putt me off but it also damage my experience in what I taught was going to be the cusp of lisboeta hospitality. Hope this can be solve and one day, after I forget such discomfort I could possibly come back and enjoy a real lisboeta Polvo a lagreiro. For the meanwhile, my apologies but I won't be coming back. Ps: no livro de reclamaçoes vai estar um comentario...
