I heard good story about this place which made me very excited first. This was our first dinner in Lissabon, but thanks to one rude staff it turned into huge disappointment. Horrible experience. Shoulder lengthed dark blond haired woman treated us very poorly since we came in for no particular reason. Other staff were fine.
If you want to read the details: We reserved a table and when we arrived a staff offered us a nice spot if we waited a little bit (we didn't ask for that particular spot before he offered it). We were happy with the spot so decided to wait. The rude staff came to us when we were waiting and she asked us annoyed why we werent seated at the empty spot. We told her that the other staff offered us the other seat which we were waiting for and she looked annoyed at us and instructed us to wait outside. Understandable if it is busy but the way she handled it was poor and rude. Once we were seated and was eating our first meal she asked us " Can you sit over there?", pointing at the other table. This was all she said literally and no reason was given. I was a bit surprised because she didnt tell us why, so I asked her if she could tell us why we had to move and she replied "Didn't you understand what I said?, looking annoyed. After we told her we understood what she said but we just wanted to know why we needed to move she told us annoyed that there was a guest of three which they wanted to place at our table. We just wanted to finish our meal in peace so we said yes and moved and finished our meal and left.
Now I am reading the reviews of this restaurant, I see multiple reviews from Asian people that they might got treated poorly, because they are Asian. I really hope this is not the...
Read moreWe had an outstanding dining experience in our last night at Duque in Lisbon. This is an amazing restaurant.
The food was the best we had in Lisbon, and that the value was excellent. Specifically, we highly recommend the grilled octopus, which was cooked to perfection with a delicious blend of caramelized onion and garlic in olive oil. You also need to try the sea rice, which had an amazing flavor that you simply couldn't miss. There are many other great food selections but we just couldn’t try them all. Looking at our neighboring tables, it looked like they all enjoyed their food. Most of them ordered seafood dishes.
Since this is a popular that’s on all food bloggers’ recommendations list, making a reservation on Google is essential. It's always helpful to plan ahead to ensure that you get a table at a place as good as Duque. We didn’t have a reservation and luckily, the restaurant manager got me in between reservations time slots. The guy is fantastic, the friendliest guy in Lisbon.
While getting to the restaurant might require climbing some steps, but the effort is well worth it. Duque is located on the famous Solar du Duque street, which is lined with many local restaurants offering traditional Portuguese meals at local prices. The typical signs of Portuguese culture, such as hanging laundry, add to the charming atmosphere of the neighborhood.
Overall, we had a fantastic experience at Duque, thanks to the delicious food, great value, and charming location. Anyone looking for a top-notch dining experience in Lisbon should definitely consider Duque as a...
Read moreFavorite place I ate at in Lisbon! So delicious and fun that I ate here twice.
Booking is recommended but if not, you will get a table if you wait a bit. There is constantly a waiter running around between the restaurant’s three rooms on the same street sitting people, if you wait at the lowest location he will come and put you in the queue.
The first time I ate there, I ordered some of the little snacks, they were varied and delicious.
Second time I had a main course and it was just as good.
The mains and snacks are really delicious, the desserts are good but not as special. Take a ginjinha instead!
I was eating alone and the staff were all very kind and attentive even through the rush. Both time they entertained my ordering in my (not very good) Portuguese.
The second time, I ate in the lowest room and observed how efficiently the restaurant’s owner was running everything, being pleasant and helpful to everyone including the rest of the staff. The restaurant is impressively run for how many people it serves. The owner kindly took the time to go look up the brand of their cherry liquor (ginjinha) for me, which I really appreciated.
This restaurant is not the cheapest but the prices are adequate for the quality of both the food and the service.
The atmosphere was busy and fun both times I went. This is a top recommendation in...
