Absolutely awful in every respect. Was showing family round lisbon for the day. Everyone was starving so we just stopped there. What a mistake to make! First waiter approached the table in silence with no eye contact or greeting, just stood there apparently waiting for us to initiate the order. He then confidently informed us that in this part of lisbon its illegal to put tap water on a table (mahaha LIAR!). Second waiter brought 35cl beers then got angry when I questioned the size as we had ordered imperials (20cl). He tried to convince me that all imperials are 35cl, maybe didn't realise we live here lol. Then the food. My chicken was small, dry, flavourless, and full of tiny sharp bones, served with 3 tiny potatoes. The Mushroom omlettes were overcooked in old oil, with a few barely identifiable bits of Mushroom in there. The tagliatelle bolognaise was simply a train wreck: overcooked slimey pasta with what tasted like tinned sauce. As hungry as we were nobody could finish that plate. All the while, tourist busses screamed up the tiny road next to us. At the end the last waiter told me there was no service on the bill but he had already added 10% on the card machine. I had to ask him repeatedly to remove it before paying. The only nice thing about the experience was a saxophonist in the street outside. Stay away...

Don’t bother eating here.

Don’t eat the breadbasket it’s 2.00€ for two breads and they put it on your table to see if you will eat it and then charge you. We also asked if the bread was free, to which they responded with a definitive yes, and then were were surprised to find it on the bill.

The butter and cheese that comes with the breadbasket is 0.30€ each and they will charge you the amount they give you, not the amount you use.

They will also attempt to tell you that service is not included in the final bill and ask you to tip an additional 10%. If service was good I would have considered it, however, service was slow. Twenty minutes after he had taken our orders he circled back to ask us again our order and when we reaffirmed our orders he told us we ordered something different and tried to correct us on our own order.

The food itself was extremely mediocre. We ordered three different plates and the only one with flavor was the sea bass. Additionally, portions were small for the price we were paying.

We also had to ask for the check multiple times.

It was like we were fighting to eat at a restaurant which is obviously not how it should be.

All in all, I regretted eating here and would...

If I could give zero stars, I would. This place was an utter disaster from start to finish. We ordered garlic bread – pretty hard to mess up – but somehow ended up with plain, dry, overpriced bread. No garlic, no butter, no effort. Just dry, sad carbs.

The mains didn’t redeem it either. The burgers? More like sliders for ants. One bite and they were gone – and not because they were so good, but because they were that small. Tasteless, rubbery, and weirdly sweet? I don’t even want to think about what they put in there. Honestly felt lucky to leave without food poisoning.

As if that wasn’t enough, the place was insanely loud. Blasting music like it was a club, not a restaurant. We could barely hear each other across the table.

Overpriced, underwhelming, and borderline inedible. Do yourself a favor and skip this tourist trap. Lisbon has so many amazing places to eat – this is not...

To be honest, the rating average surprises me! We make a point to visit here each time we come to Lisbon and have always had a great meal. We have enjoyed the bread and olives, the chourico assada, the vegetarian quiche with delicious chickpeas, grilled sardines, octopus and a pork dish. The staff, especially Sumon, are kind and welcoming. We are never rushed but always receive our food at a good pace. I highly recommend this little spot, especially if it’s a nice day and you can sit outside and enjoy the beautiful scenery and people watching!

I noticed that many of these other reviewers who called Santiago a “tourist trap” were ordering, like, hamburgers. Sure, there are lots of tourists here — it’s on the main way down from the castle— but “trap”? It’s an atmospheric little eatery in a quiet little square a safe distance from the real traps above and down below at the overlooks. The grilled sardines were amazing, baked Camembert w/figs really good, the house vinho verde at the perfect temperature, the bread rolls fresh and puffy, the service fast (by Euro standards) & friendly.
