After a recent visit to Loco and Pedros Lemos we were excited to continue our Michelin roadmap in Portugal.

So we decided for a last minute tasting at Grenache after finding them in the Michelin guide.

The location is amazing and the venue is cozy with a nice atmosphere. We were welcomed by an experienced and friendly staff.

While each and every dish was a visual joy, the rest was disappointing. The biggest disappointment was the texture of most of the food which played a big role during the evening.

Couvert - pretty basic couvert to start off the tasting menu. The bread sticks were fresh and tasty. The bread slices were dry on one side. The fish jelly was absolutely delicious and uplifting. But the chicken liver crisps and croquettes looked nice but didn't really impress.

Beef Tartare, Oyster, Caviar Osciétre - The oyster was overpowering the whole dish. The cheese crisp stuck to the teeth and the actual beef didn't bring much flavour or texture.

Foie Gras, Smoked Eel, Red Cabbage - Great flavours with a delicious smoked eel in the middle. But the foie gras was way too buttery in terms of flavour and texture, so it would've been better accompanied by something starchy than pickled red cabbage.

Teriyaki Glazed Octopus, Red Pepper 'Coulis', Spring Rolls, Yuzu Gelée - Octopus was tender and flavourful. Too many raw components on the plate that didn't sit well with me.

John Dory, Jerusalem Artichoke, Lemon, Ginger, Chicken Jus With Anchovies - Amazing flavours. While John Dory is a firm fish, this was too dry. The artichokes were rock hard. Great jus and black garlic sauce.

Pigeon, Beetroots, Pickled Black Berry, Juniper Berry Polenta, Sauce “Salmis” - This was my least liked plate. The squab was on the tougher side and the beetroot tasted dirt.

Cantal, Roasted Apple, Brioche - Strange dish to have on the tasting menu. Felt more like a side dish.

Yogurt Sorbet, Sauce Gin Fizz, Dill Meringue - This was my favourite dish throughout the menu. Sorbet was tasty and the sponge cake on the side was delicious.

Valrhona Chocolate Textures, Caramelised Bananas, Tonka Emulsion - Tasty caramelised banana, but the rest had a refrigerator taste like it had been stored there for...

I am going to give a detailed review I wanted to give a full review so I went for whole 9 course meal Before I start review, my recommendation will be not to go for 9 course meal for 2 reasons Its too many courses, you won't enjoy everything In 9 course meal, I felt there for two many seafood dishes (though all beautifully cooked and worth an experience Now let's start one by one

Amuses-bouches was a combination of 4 bite sized cold appetisers , all amazing

Followed by beef tarter which was served with oyster and caviar

Foie grass and smoked eel-may be the only course which I didn't enjoy , more to do with my personal preference than course itself

Cured mackerel with yuzu and pickle,

Then it was followed with longustine(type of lobster) As you can see last 4 courses were all sea food based , all of them were cold courses

Then came venison with celeriac pie and black truffle, I was pleasantly surprised as I don't like celery but u loved it

Then was St nectaire cheese

Then were 2 desserts ,poached peer with sorbet and second was chocolate mousse

Remember one thing, this is top level fine dinning It's not something you eat daily, you may not loke the taste as your palates are not used to this sort of food but its all about experience

Now to answer in short Did I enjoy it, yes I loved it Would I change anything , yes go for 6 course instead of 9 course Rest...

DO NOT EAT HERE unless you want a trip to the hospital.

What we witnessed today was an absolute disgrace. We were looking for a place to eat after visiting the Castle Sao Jorge and came across this quiet courtyard with outside seating.

As we were deciding between these 2 spots we noticed a tourist go inside with a map to ask for directions. As she walked in to the restaurant to approach the one waiter with her map, other waiter proceeded to lock the door behind her.

We thought this was odd since there was a couple having drinks on their patio.

Then it happened! The poor girl walked back out and straight into the locked glass door. The same door that was wide open 1 minute prior. Zero signage on the door and no way to tell if it was open or closed.

The waiter proceeded to get the window cleaner to clean the window as she cried in serious pain. He finally unlocked the door and let her leave. The door stayed open and it was clear he only did this to be cruel to the tourist. He was smiling the whole time.

The girl came out holding her wrist and also had a massive bump on her forehead. She most likely had a concussion and broken wrist, which is completely possible considering how hard she walked into the door.

If an employee of a restaurant is capable of this, what do you think he does to the food before...

If the Grenache in Lisbon does not yet boast a Michelin star, based on the culinary excellence and unparalleled service it offers, it is surely only a matter of time until it receives this coveted accolade. The meticulously prepared eight courses, coupled with a perfect selection of French cheeses, highlight a level of culinary finesse and creativity that is characteristic of Michelin-starred restaurants. From the moment of our arrival at Grenache, where we were greeted by an ambiance that was both elegant and welcoming, to the last bite of dessert, every detail was handled with precision and a passion for gastronomy that is rarely found. The careful pairing of selected wines with each dish was a testament to the sommeliers’ deep knowledge of their craft, a skill highly valued in Michelin-starred restaurants. The exquisite selection of French cheeses served between courses not only provided a palette of flavors that delighted the palate but also an educational journey through the art of French cheese. This level of attention to the quality and origin of ingredients reflects the high standards Michelin applies in awarding its stars. Moreover, Grenache stands out for an atmosphere that is both inviting and exquisite – a balance that captures the true essence of a Michelin-star experience. The hospitality and service we experienced were impeccable, with a team clearly committed to providing an unforgettable experience for every guest. For all these reasons – the exceptional cuisine, knowledgeable service, and welcoming atmosphere – Grenache, in my eyes, already deserves a Michelin star. Recognition by the Michelin Guide would be a well-deserved confirmation of the hard work and talent that the Grenache team puts into every detail of their work. Until then, Grenache remains a shining example of culinary excellence, receiving my highest recommendation.
