When you come to Portugal, you must eat seafood. I think it's a law or something. Anyway, as part of our journey of trying all the seafood we could, we came to Solar 31 with the intent to get crab. We ordered the crab and clams to hold us while we waited. The restaurant was very busy so we made sure to grab a last minute reservation and it's a good thing we did. When you first enter the restaurant you will notice all the fish and crustaceans in the tanks, which is a good sign! The fresher the better. The food was certainly fresh which is very common in Portugal! While we came for the crab, my favorite dish was the clams! They had this lovely citrusy broth which brightened up the dish and paired with the clam meat very well. When the crab arrived I was excited to see the meat of the body put back into the purse/shell with a sauce. The meat of the crab was a little sweet and pretty tasty. The meat in the purse though with the sauce was a bit bland and tasted overwhelmingly of mayonnaise. However, I had a brilliant idea! Remember that citrus clam sauce? I combined it with the crab and mayo to add acidity and that improved it a lot for me. I would recommend trying the same combo! The service was a bit hard to get ahold of sometimes but that's fairly common in Europe so I don't mind too much. Ultimately I'm torn between 4 and 5 stars on this one. I'll say 4 because the crab was a bit pricey and so it would've been nice to have a better balanced sauce for the crab body since that was half the dish.

Our recent visit to Solar 31 in Lisbon, a seafood restaurant, was a mixed experience for our party of three. Here's a breakdown of our meal and the overall impression: We ordered a variety of dishes - clams, mussels, octopus, and a whole grilled seabass. The seabass stood out with its excellent preparation and flavor. However, the other dishes were just alright. The service initially delivered the first three dishes (clams, mussels, and octopus) to our table in a mere five minutes, creating a rushed start to our meal. We had to request a slower pace, which improved things, but waiting an entire hour for the seabass was excessive. It would have been ideal to strike a balance. An online-only menu via QR code, compounded by unreliable Wi-Fi, posed a challenge. Our seating arrangement near the noisy refrigeration unit and next to a loud table diminished the overall experience. Considering these factors and the somewhat steep prices (70eur/kg for fish), Solar 31 in Lisbon did not emerge as a top choice for seafood dining.

Wow, made a reservation here for lunch from some local write ups and so glad we did. It looks like a hole in the wall but the food and staff are outstanding. This is our first time and first day in Lisbon and it is a fantastic start. Knowing little about Portuguese cuisine we put ourselves in the hands of our fantastic waitress’ who did us well. Started with 6 is oysters and the were outstanding and so different from gulf, and easy and west coast North American oysters, very rich oyster flavor. Then had the Breem which our waitress deboned at the table. Another great dish. Asked them to recommend a wine to go with it and had our first ever “green” Portuguese wine, it was a fantastic pairing. For dessert our waitress recommended trying their Fidalgo, a local specialty egg custard and wow, it was fantastic. This was our first day in Lisbon and first time here and we got hugs when we left like we were family. What a way to start a vacation

In love from the first second. We had not booked, a mistake, it was full. But the very attentive waitress said, if we wait a little we have a chance. So it was. We got a table and came back three times. Why: The chef, knows how to cook. He knows how to prepare fish, crab, lobster,... to the point, just great. Without frills, but pure and extremely good. I have rarely experienced such friendly, attentive but also super authentic waitress as here. The entire team visibly enjoys their work, probably also because everyone is allowed to be who they are. Not everything was perfect. The cappuccino was way too hot, but you forgive that gladly when you are served as a guest so joyfully. The wines are down-to-earth and good. Nothing is exaggerated, everything is on the level. The good mood of the team, is also transferred to the guests. The prices are fair. W'll come back, also because I need one of the cool polo shirts that the waiters wear :-)

I don’t know how I managed to stumble across this place it was a total accident. Holy man. I love coming to Portugal for the fish but this was a totally other experience. For start, I couldn’t decide between two dishes and they reccomended the octopus which I love and it was honestly unlike any grilled or boiled I’ve ever had... it was the absolute softest melt in your mouth octopus.. I had no idea octopus could do that. Service was amazing, this place - it blew me out of the water. As I said: Seafood is always super nice in Portugal but this was one of those few meals I’ll never forget. Was 23€ for octopus, prawns and bottle of water and a dessert, the value is insane for the quality you get. For people commenting on price- it is slightly on the “higher” end for Portugal- you can for sure get very nice meals for much cheaper - but my god this place will not disappoint. I want to go back in time and eat it again. Huge recommend.

We had a lovely first night in Lisbon, thanks to Solar 31. We didn't make a reservation, but they were very flexible to schedule a table for us in half an hour. We went to the rooftop bar nearby to have a drink during the waiting time. It was quite nice to be able to do both in my opinion. The staff was super friendly and knew the menu ins and outs. The food was delicious and well presented. I love their traditional clam dish and the "ugly" fish choice, only found in Portugal. The staff also let us try different wines before making the selection. Then, we were quite impressed by the chef's friendliness. He was very caring, funny and knowledgeable. He went to each table to make sure we're happy and satisfied. He also took the time to explain the seafood, hidden gems in Portugal and even traveling tips around the world. All in all, I would say don't miss it while you're there, a must-try in Lisbon.
