Unfortunately we had a very negative experience at Solar Do Vez last week. We chose it as the atmosphere seemed decent, but things quickly went downhill. I asked for tap water but our server said their water "wasn't good" and offered bottled water which I declined. He still would not provide tap water. It is a legal requirement to provide tap water in Portugal. We should have gotten up and left at that point, but were so hungry we stayed. Our server then tried to upsell on soup, and happy hour drinks. You could tell the servers had a lot of pressure to upsell items, and it really soured the experience. Aperol spritz was very watered down, and food was truly bad. The worst meal of our week in Portugal by a long shot. The pizzas were very heavy on cheese making them quite soggy. Risotto was a 3/10, really lacking flavour. We ate less than half of our meals, and asked for the bill. We asked for the service change to be taken off as we were so disappointed with the meal and service, and had the server argue with us. Other reviews seem positive, but unfortunately this was not our experience so I cannot recommend...

My elderly father and I spent our first evening in Lisbon at this quaint restaurant with view of the water. The owner immediately saw that my father was cold and brought us inside where he turned on the heater just for him.

He guided us through the menu that also had English descriptions. All the food looked spectacular! We tried the carrot soup, chorizo, paella, and (my dad’s favorite) grilled octopus. The owner even brought out a sample of local cheese and bread and then honored us with a small glass of a tasty cherry liqueur!

He treated us so kindly and talked with us about local sights and things to see. He invited us to the restaurants Christmas Eve and night events and encouraged us to come watch the fireworks.

The owner also had one of his servers guide us to a good spot to catch a taxi and when none came he helped me connect to his hotspot and get an uber instead.

Thank you for...

We went there for 2 straight dinners....super friendly crew, even the owner came and spoke with us in both occasions..he is very modest and warm...told us that it is probably their 2nd week of opening...His story was quite inspiring ..felt a very good positive energy....I noticed that the space management is very well....service is quite prompt without any mistake....menu is very concise and not overdone....it also reflects their cooking.....we had Paella du marisco....cooked perfectly in both occasions....Fried sardin is also recommended.....the food experience also had good support of happy hour cocktails..overall very well designed components and prior experience in the field can be seen...I think they deserve some more support from the food lovers...four and half stars from my side....I would definitely come back...take care Mr. Ifty and Mr. Shakil....hopefully we...

Close to Lisbon city’s waterfront, we had lunch at Solar do Vez which had a lovely outdoors area and reasonably attentive members of staff. I ordered the grilled squid which while tasty, was inconsistent in terms of texture. Some of the squid were melt-in-your-mouth tender while other pieces of squid were extremely chewy. The tender pieces of squid that I did have were delightful to eat. Just an aside, the local birds may also try and steal your food. Overall, I had an OK experience in Solar do Vez but I would personally not be a repeat customer here next time we’re in Lisbon!
