Frustrating experience

I tried to order in Portuguese but the waitress didn't understand me. They speak Spanish a lot in Lisboa too so I tried in Spanish, nope no success, then English, the waitress still looked at me with such confused face. I didn't even try in my native tongue. I thought to myself, jeez, don't I know how to speak anymore? So I pointed on the menu what I wanted, menu with photo of the dish may I add. And still, she couldn't understand!!! I mean seriously?? She had to take my phone to go and show the Chef! 🤣

When the food arrived, scramble eggs were turned into an omelet and the smoke salmon was missing!! An Americano with milk was also hard to order, they had it on the menu too but it tested like instant coffee 🤔

At some point an employee came in with big bags. Knock my table nearly makin g some of my coffee to go over the rim into the saucer. She didn't even turn around to apologize.

Oh and the bill was wrong, in my favor! I normally point these things out but the coffee tasted like instant coffee, service was so bad and the table so dirty I didn't say anything.

Tasty food! Friendly staff. But low value for money. I recommend giving it a try though, you sure won’t regret the food!

Value for money (2 / 5): We paid around 16 Euros per person, including drinks. Relative to the portions and the type of food, I think it was a bit over-priced.

Food quality (4 / 5): Everything we tried was delicious! Also great coffee ☕️

Food quantity (3 / 5): Portions are relatively small / regular.

Hospitality (5 / 5): Friendly staff

Atmosphere (4 / 5): Mostly an international crowd, have not seen many locals. Nice atmosphere. But nothing special.

Would go there again? Maybe

Tip: If you like variety try the veggie and/or non-veggie breakfast plate

Edit: After spending some time in Lisbon I realized prices here are better value for money than other breakfast places. I change my review...

Beware! Your cooked breakfast may be stone cold! I ordered the breakfast plate and was surprised to find that the sausages, mushrooms and beans were all completely cold - so cold that I assumed that was just how they decided to do them there. When paying at the counter I checked and it turned out they should have been hot. The assistant (owner?) said they had been busy and they would get it right next time! As you might imagine there will not be a next time!! Very poor attitude and very unusual in Alfama. Everywhere else in Alfama has been great, with excellent food and lovely people.
