Was my meal at this restaurant the start of my villan origin story?? Only time will tell. At the very least, Ive learned that its possible to make hot-dog style shrimp - which is something I will never recover from.
Truly awful from start to finish - the food, service, and experience.
First, the portly, squat old man who acted like ring leader of the restaurant brought us the wrong drinks. We dealt with it. That was the first and only time we recieved any offer of beverage for the night. Then, put on an attitude after we ordered... presumably because he wasn't sufficiently satisfied with the price of the food that we ordered???
When the food came an hour later, two of the four dishes for our table were edible - though they brought us a full portion despite the fact we clearly specified we wanted the half. The other two meals were a nauseating joke. One, the hot-dog shrimp pasta, made my friend rush to the bathroom immediately after returning from the restaurant. She cant get rid of the squishy tuna-tasting shrimp taste in her mouth. I fared slightly better, in that I ordered the "vegetarian spaghetti" for 15€ (!!!). It was half a pot of store bought spaghetti noodles with a handful of soggy cabbage in it. They also brought side dishes to our table that we didn't order, and didn't bring two things we ordered.
After we finished our "meal", I asked for the check. They charged us for several things we did not order. When I raised this, this miserable ring leader some how managed to add something else to our bill to make it 15€ more than the original total. We paid the bill due to lack of recourse and wanting to get home to purchase some edible food and get some more drinks since we were thirsty/starving/livid/needing a bathroom.
I really don't mind getting the tourist treatment and overpaying in almost every situation. I'd happily pay extra for the privilege of traveling, having a nice meal, and memory. But this was just ridiculous. And importantly, disgusting.
Thanks to cheap pizza and the hotel bar for...
Read moreIf you are a seafood lover visiting Porto, Dom Peixe is an absolute must-visit. This restaurant is a true gem, offering some of the freshest and most flavorful seafood I have ever experienced. From the moment you walk in, the warm and welcoming atmosphere sets the stage for a memorable dining experience.
The star of the menu is undoubtedly their grilled fish. Cooked to perfection over charcoal, the fish retains its natural juiciness while carrying that wonderful smoky flavor that makes each bite irresistible. The variety is impressive—whether you choose sea bass, dourada, or their catch of the day, you can expect it to be fresh, tender, and expertly prepared. The sides complement the mains beautifully, from crisp salads to perfectly seasoned potatoes, ensuring a balanced and satisfying meal.
Beyond the fish, Dom Peixe excels in presenting seafood with simplicity and elegance, allowing the quality of the ingredients to shine through. The service is attentive yet relaxed, with staff happy to recommend the best pairings and explain the day’s specials.
No meal here is complete without indulging in dessert. Their homemade sweets are the perfect ending—light, flavorful, and crafted with the same care as the mains. The combination of top-notch seafood and delightful desserts makes this restaurant stand out even in a city famous for its food scene.
In short, Dom Peixe is a place where freshness meets skill, and every dish is made with love. Highly recommended for anyone seeking authentic, top-quality...
Read moreWe came to this restaurant because we were recommended it by our hotel. Unfortunately, it was not what we expected.
Upon arrival, we were ignored for a long time and there was no reason for that as they were not terribly busy. The waiters you could tell were not very friendly and they were busy smoking on the side instead of wanting to serve the guests. After waiting for an unreasonable amount of time, I had to eventually solicit service to order our food. The hostess wasn’t very friendly either. The truth is that the service was terrible, the man who served us was not friendly, on top of that he was super slow. We are tourists and we pay, nothing is given, they should improve in that part or else they better not work.
I will say that the salmon was delicious, but the calamari was just OK.
Not worth returning as there are several of these similar restaurants such as this on this main street and we will certainly choose a different one...
