Restaurant São Valentim is a great option for anyone looking to experience traditional Portuguese cuisine in a charming and cozy . The restaurant offers a variety of traditional Portuguese dishes, such as grilled octopus, bacalhau (codfish), and francesinha (a typical Porto sandwich). The food is prepared with fresh, local ingredients and is presented in a beautiful and appetizing way. Portugal is known for its delicious wines, and São Valentim is no exception. The restaurant offers a wide selection of Portuguese wines, including Vinho Verde and Port wine. The staff are knowledgeable and can help you choose the perfect wine to pair with your meal. Despite its high-quality food and excellent wine selection, Restaurant São Valentim is relatively affordable, making it a great choice for budget-conscious travelers.

Was told to go to matinhos by a local and try the sardines even though I absolutely despise them. Walked by and saw this restaurant was grilling a bunch of them so knew this was the spot to try. Ordered 1/2 dose of sardines (6-7 pieces) and the monkfish and rice. I was blown away at how good the sardines were with the crispy salty skin. I honestly thought I'd have one piece and then be done but I couldn't stop eating it. The monkfish was a huge bowl filled with shrimp also and was made for sharing between 2-4 people. If I went back I'd just get the sardines. This restaurant seemed more formal setting which I'm not a big fan of. Btw if didn’t know you get charged for whatever you pick up and eat for the butter, olives, bread etc. Service was quick even with it being very busy

Matosinhos is a large fishing town that has many many seafood restaurants. Many seem to have copied the same cooking style . Outdoor gas grills where a variety of fish is grilled, Salmon. Cod, Sea Bream Shrimp Lobster etc. the grilling is simple with just some sea salt and the fish is fresh and very tasty. We were a group of 8, sat inside and ordered soups. They had two choices vegetable or Cabbage, we also had Sea Bream, Shrimp in olive oil and garlic which came with whole skinned potatoes roasted in olive oil . There was bread on the table which they charged $3 euro for each basket. It took almost 40 mins to get our lunch .

After much research, we decided to try this place for lunch today. Many similar-style restaurants along this street, but this seemed like the only one that was packed...always a good sign. For those traveling with kids, unless they are good at trying new things, there are no "kid (toddler)" friendly meals. Thankfully, my girl was VERY happy with just bread and butter.🤣 I had the shrimp a la guilho (cooked in garlic and oil), which was fabulous. My parents had the large grilled sardines, which was plentiful enough for 2-3 people. I wish we had room for dessert because the creme Brule looked amazing. Staff were very professional and kindly put up with our terrible Portuguese. 😅 We likely won't come back because our time here is too short, but I do...
