Yummy Restaurant — Restaurant in Ponta Delgada

Sushi is okay but service is absolutely horrendous - will not be coming back. Lying, dismissive, slow and uninterested staff. There are better options around.

A few points:

1. When you ask for an item, Staff prefer to lie and say they ran out of that item rather than go get it. Happened to me twice that I ask for something (Wasabi and a sushi type) and I’m immediately told it ran out, yet I complained when I saw another customer receiving those same items and I finally got them for myself - ridiculous.

2. We were a 6 people group, and one person was vegetarian. They were told, rudely, from the boss: “This isn’t a place for vegetarians” - claiming there was nothing for them, even though the menu showed plenty of options. Never experienced anything like this.

3. Ordered 5 times a certain sushi piece (among other items) but never received them. When I called an employee to ask him to kindly check if they could prepare those specific pieces, he didn’t want to (but eventually did) - yet it still didn’t come. Had to complain once again for it to come. Unbelievable when you’re paying 20€.

4. 30 minutes wait time every time you order is actually unheard of. You end up not eating much due to the time wasted. Encourages people to order larger portions, but then again, they don’t bring you half of what you ordered anyways.

5. The floor manager or boss or whatever was completely dismissive of us for any request. Brushing us off and just ignoring us to just stand around doing nothing. And feels awful to say this but the truth is, he will not care of you unless you’re a woman. Not a good look for the restaurant.

This is now our third time eating here. Our first time was a very special celebratory dinner that everyone made very special and unforgettable to us.. Despite what other's have said, I have found even when this place is jam packed, the service is still decent. Santos is one of the most helpful and friendly waiters we've ever experienced and both Santos and Doma always make us feel welcomed and cared for, so it is always a pleasure seeing their faces. Yes, this is an affordable sushi place. We like it because of that, and the diverse menu which features hot and cold items, even fresh fruit and salads + great drinks and cheap beers. We have found out this buffet-style place works on small orders at once, since the place is usually extremely busy and open the longest hours, shorter orders help relieve the kitchen and make sure all costumers have something to nosh on while orders are coming out left and right. Sometimes when you order too may things at once, you get half back. But you just write them down again and by the time you finish half, they are very attentive at coming back by the time you're done & you just give them the next order. I'm not sure how quickly people eat but I rather have fresh rolls a little at a time than all of my food crowding the table. To all the people saying the quality of the fish isn't great. With the rising tourist and local population ever demanding, how can you expect to pay $30 for endless local, fresh caught fish?? Be realistic. The mistake is that your expectations are...

I have lived on the island for several years and have been in this restaurant with my service dog at least three times. The last time I was in this restaurant I was humiliated in front of the entire place. They walked us to our table and let us sit down. We were getting ready to order, and then a lady came out and made me leave because my service animal was not allowed in the restaurant. I have a neurological condition, and require a service animal for medical alert. She is 4 kgs. She lays under the table at my feet and does not disturb anyone. The dog is highly trained. To kick someone out of a restaurant due to a medical condition is Ludacris. Especially when they’ve allowed me in three times prior with the same service animal. I had several staff standing around my table telling me to leave. I spoke with my attorney on the island and she said I have every right to be in this restaurant. I don’t have a problem anywhere else on the island. I have been in way, nicer restaurants and yummy and never a problem. In fact, they’re very welcoming accommodating unlike this place.
