The food itself was okay. I ordered the squid, which was decent but not particularly flavorful. When we first sat down, the waiter brought out some appetizers without us ordering anything. We assumed they were complimentary since we hadn’t asked for them.
The main dishes took quite a while to arrive, and when we finally got the bill, it was handwritten , with the appetizers added on. When we politely asked about it, the waiter rudely said, “You eat, you pay,” in a condescending tone. He then continued to lecture us as if we were children, insisting we didn’t understand what was happening. It was humiliating and completely unnecessary. To make things worse, they only accepted Portuguese cards or cash, something we were told only after trying to pay. When we finally paid in cash at the counter, the two waiters exchanged suspicious looks, which made the whole situation feel even more uncomfortable. After such rude and disrespectful treatment, we just wanted to leave. The experience completely ruined what could have been a nice evening. We will never go back and definitely do not recommend this...
Read moreWe decided to dine at a barbecued pork rib restaurant away from central Porto, more likely with local Portuguese patrons, located about 1 km—or a pleasant 15-minute walk from where our hotel is located. The owner and chef, a warm and engaging man who speaks very good English, enriched our visit with friendly informative conversation.
We ordered the golden sea bream, which was fresh and perfectly grilled, and paired it with a full slab of spiced-up barbecued pork ribs. Accompanied by a bottle of Mateus Rosé and finished off with a creamy tiramisu, the meal was truly delightful. The service was polite, efficient, and attentive—complementing the outstanding food. The meal automatically comes with rice and French fries.
It was well worth the walk, which also gave us the chance to enjoy the lively atmosphere of Rua de Santa Catarina, one of Porto’s main pedestrian...
Read moreWaited 1 hour and 15 minutes for our food. No one even came to say sorry, no one brought even a basket of bread. After 40 minutes a waiter asked me what I ordered. Not even an apology or explanation. We answered and he just took off and left. After 50 minutes I told the waiter I was really hungry. The waiter replied with: "Hmmm.. ".
I know they were really busy (they seemed to work quite inefficiently) and that they worked really hard. But it's really quite easy to recognize that it's 20:30 and that a customer has been there for a long time. You can make a small gesture by bringing some bread on the house or by communicting like I am a normal person. I feel disrespected and ignored.
When we finally got the food, it tasted good. I can imagine people want to go here when you get served normally. But with this kind of service, I recommend going to a...
