Read moreUpdate 7/15: I finally tried this restaurant today. The seating is spacious and bright with natural light. The staff was very friendly and welcoming.
The food is mainly sharing dishes with small and medium sizes and the waiter will explain to you at the beginning. All the dishes I ordered were quite good and had their own unique flavors.
It's a good restaurant to share with friends and family, but I don't know if I'll return in the future. Also after my first experience. So this time, I confirmed my reservation with The fork 3 days before and the same problem happened again, but I was able to change the reservation time because I found out in advance.
In the end I paid more than 50 EUR without any discounts which I wouldn't say it is really cheap, I think maybe the owner should have a bit details since last time they didn't receive us when we had 30% discount. This is just my opinion, of course the owner can decide how they want to run the business. We came to have lunch here today, May 25, at 12:00 PM. I made the reservation long time ago (20th of April) and they sent me a reconfirmation email before our arrival. When we arrived, the restaurant was closed. No one called or send an email to warn us in advance. Then I checked their Google Maps prodile and could see that they had updated their opening schedule the previous week. I think this is really rude and irresponsible, it really ruined the experience when you visit Porto. When we planned our trip well in advance to have wonderful experience, but this restaurant ruined it. Btw the owner called to apologize at 13:15 which is the basic thing they can do now after all the mess. So I will give them 2 Star instead of 1 Star because of...
Read moreFantastic experience, the best food I can remember having anywhere. Consistently excellent throughout the meal and personal experience with the head chef involved with service. Must try place - book a table if you're in Porto!
We didn't book but they were able to seat us as we arrived earlier than most and plenty were turned away. They explained the menu, concept and helped with recommendations.
The Bimis (tempura brocolini and sriracha mayonnaise) was fresh, salty and a perfect first plate. The "Wellington" de Morcela (blood sausage, scallion and pork jus) was rich, hearty and perfectly balanced with roasted baby onions and pickled mustard seeds. We then had the Sarda Escabechada (mackerel, beetroot and ajo Blanco) which was delicious; a silky white wine sauce with a subtle garlic undertone, tasty beetroot and fresh mackerel with a pickle flavor to cut right through. To end the mains there was the Bochecha (pork cheek and potato and leek cream), which was frankly perfect. Everything you want in a cheek dish. To end we had to have what the chef described as the best thing he's ever made: Pão-de-ló (a simple cake-type dish with goats cheese ice cream). It was the perfect end to the meal: sweet, soft base that was like thin, freshly cooked blondie with a goats cheese ice cream, olive oil and sea salt.
We drank the white wine by the glass, and the bill was very, very reasonable.
There is no way I could have made the experience better. The team are really proud of what they are doing (rightly so), change the menu every two months, and are expanding the restaurant into a patio area at the back soon.
I would definitely go back whenever I come to Porto and would recommend...
