Me along with, I imagine, everyone coeliac who visits Porto, was literally counting down the days to try the Pastel De Nata as it's something I've missed so much. We got there at 10.25 and we took the last free table, literally people waiting for it to open (I thought a good sign!) It opened 10 minutes late, and our order was taken last (not something I thought would be an issue with a usual restaurant service set up). My husband advised me they didn't have any Natas when I returned from the toilet. I couldn't believe it! In Portugal for the first time, with the only gluten free place to make Natas and they'd run out within minutes of opening? Even though we were there before opening time? (This isn't a big place so I couldn't comprehend how more Natas weren't made ahead of time).
Anyway. They kindly advise my husband he could order some and pick them up 45 mins later.
We sat and watched the other 5 tables outside get their coffees and their Natas they'd managed to order before us. We waited for 2 bottles of water and a pork sandwich. And we waited. And watched. As we still didn't have our water and people were getting crepes etc. More and more layers to their order were arriving and we still didn't have water 40 minutes later.
My husband went in and asked politely for our water , the waitress asked if he was the one who'd ordered the Natas and that she'd bring the water now. Another 10 minutes at least, we got out waters.
And another 10 at least for the pork sandwich. And of course, you guessed it, we were able to take the Natas away (hot) because of how long we'd waited for.... Water and one pork Sandwich. Over an hour for 2 bottles of water and bread with pork in.
The food was nice, it was ok, but we wouldn't come back in a hurry.
Waiting for food that's fresh is more than acceptable to me, I'm happy to wait for fresh healthy food but without prior warning and simple communication to indicate delays with politeness and only explain after the wait isn't...

I was excited to try this place as a coeliac who has few food choices in Porto. I sat at an outside table with two friends who had brought sandwiches from another place. The waitress promptly told them they couldnât eat at their sandwiches due to contamination (which was completely understandable). I then ordered and said I would get it to takeaway. After taking my order she walked over to a guy and starting kissing him right outside the venue which I found uncomfortable. Whilst waiting for my food, we played a card game at the table. When my sandwich arrived we were halfway through our card game and so I started eating at the table. The waitress then came over and said âwhen you order to take it away, you take it away. If you order to eat in, you can eat it here. But when you take it away you must go awayâ in an extremely rude tone. I said we were sorry but we had changed our minds and wanted to stay to eat in now if that was okay. Over the next 5 mins we watched her tell another table that they couldnât move a chair from one of the other tables and made them move tables (even though half of the tables were free). Another staff member then came out and pinned up a sign that said âit is forbidden to play cards at the tablesâ which is completely absurd, we werenât disturbing anyone playing our game!
By the end of our experience we were actually laughing about it - how the staff could be so straight up rude to customerâs faces and decide to add new ridiculous policies whilst we were sitting right there! As well as all that, the food was not very good - flavourless...
Read moreI read the reviews prior to coming to this restaurant and I wish I had of listened to all the reviews warning people not to come. We were desperate to find a gluten free restaurant because we are celiac so we thought, "how bad could it be, let's just go and give it the benefit of the doubt." Wrong choice! The food was poor quality and extremely mediocre. We ordered a ham and cheese sandwich, something that is very easy to get right, yet the bread came out soggy and untoasted. Our "croissant" was just a burger bun shaped to look like a croissant (false advertising and extremely dry). We ordered 2 cappuccinos but got served caramel lattes. We ordered 3 natas, the pastry was undercooked, the custard was curdled and 1 was hot and the other 2 were cold. There was just no love put into the food. In the beginning of our visit we moved tables because of the sun and the restaurant owner was rude to us and told us off in an unprofessional manner for moving. We also overheard her speaking very rudly and defensively to other guests. The restaurant had such a weird vibe too because no one looked satisfied with what they were eating. Overall very disappointing. The restaurant was surprisingly busy so clearly there is a need for more fully gluten free restaurants in Porto but with much better quality food. Definitely don't...
