Feel completely taken advantage of!!! Bill should have been around 8 euros. The prices were clearly marked and labeled in the window. Two sandwiches at 2 euros plus 2 cappuccinos. Should have been 8 euros. BUT when we asked for the bill we were told 17.50!!! I asked why and was given no explanation. The waiter took our 20 euro bill and we waited for the change. It became clear that he wasn't coming back and I thought I'll be damned if I'm letting him keep the change as well! I followed him around and he seemed to be running away from me. Finally, I had the chance to ask him for the change and he quickly reached into his shirt pocket claiming he'd forgotten yet pulled out the exact chang !! AND THEN said 'Thank you, good bye' and began singing 'We wish you a Merry Christmas' in a loud sarcastic voice clearly trying to get rid of us.
What a pity. We are loving our time in Porto and have met great, hospitable people but experiences like this put a bad taste in your mouth. Shame on him for not only ruining things for tourists but for his fellow citizens working in the...
Read moreAte lunch here. Ordered the"plate of the day". It was a breaded deep fried pork cutlet. Totally forgettable, greasy diner food. What was more irritating and what other diners should be aware of is the following.... When the waitress comes to take your order, you tell her what you want, and then she asks you if you want soup or other extras with your meal. You accept or decline, understanding that you have been asked about "extras". A few minutes later she comes and puts bread slices on the table. She doesn't ask you if you WANT them nor does she tell you that they are EXTRA. You nibble on them... Later when you pay, you will see an extra charge suddenly appear on the cash register (no paper receipts are offered). When you say "what's that for" he will tell you it's "for the bread". It's only €2.50, but it's not ethical in my opinion and i could use harsher words than this.
Beware when you go here that you actually WANT everything that is...
Read moreI want to first say, I am no cod/bacalhau expert. We stopped here on the way to the train station to catch our flight home for a quick bite for lunch. I got the fried cod fillet (which I have had in other places in Portugal) and it was awful. No telling how long it was sitting there. I know it was relatively inexpensive (one piece was 2.50 EUR) and obviously not fresh so my expectations were not high to begin with, but this was bad. The batter was WAY too thick and the cod still had the skin and fin on it (can't decide if that was normal but I really don't think so) and it had tons of bones! Don't recommend this place for this item whatsoever. I tried to just eat the overly thick breading but that didn't taste good either so I couldn't finish it and had to purchase food at the airport instead. Plan ahead,...
