O Forno dos Clérigos — Restaurant in Porto

AVOID THIS PLACE! They are scammers and the food is horrible. Not only it tastes bad but it gave us a bad stomachache. At the counter we ordered two cappuccinos and two pastries, somehow the guy added two orange juices (not fresh and full of ice) and the total came to 23€!!! My friend handed him 20 but I questioned him on how it was possible it came to that total. A Portuguese customer was also shocked and questioned him on our behalf but he told her to mind her business. I asked for the 20 back back and he refused (we hadn’t been served the food yet), so I asked for a receipt and after much fiddling another men behind the counter told him to charge us 10€ for the orange juice (that they had clearly poured from a supermarket carton of the cheapest and worse juices). Cappuccinos were watery, pastries were awful. I wish I had read the reviews before...

AVOID THESE SCAMMERS! It is rare that I feel compelled to write a review, but this is one of those few cases where I feel it is my moral duty to warn people to STAY AWAY from this place. Here is how the scam works: You get seated at the table, you order your lunch. While you are waiting they bring you a small plate with three slices of bread drizzled with olive oil (literally three slices). They put this plate in front of you, and you think "oh nice they give me something to snack on while I wait for my meal." Little did I know then at the moment of paying you get charged 10 EUROS for appetizers. I complained saying I did not order those. And the reply was "But you ate them". I don't know what I should write to encourage you to AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST. There are many nice cafes and restaurants in Porto. This place does not deserve...

I wish I remembered reading these reviews before going. This place is a huge scam for tourists. Looks like your run of the mill local bakery with simple furnishings (absolutely nothing fancy about it which might fool you into thinking it's affordable), though when paying you'll realise its anything but. Food is very very average, probably even a little below average. I had a tasteless egg and cheese sandwich, shrimp-less (but soaked in oil) shrimp pastry, a crab-less crab claw and small coffee, and I expected it to cost me about 6€ at best, but I was charged 9.5€!!! This means the sandwich would minimally be 6€. Considering that in Portugal you could get a main with octopus or shrimps for 8-10€, this is considerably overpriced. Porto is an amazing place, with affordable food and extremely friendly locals, it's a disgrace that this place...
