Franganito — Restaurant in Porto

On a 24 hour visit to Porto we wanted a dinner by the river. We chose here...oh dear! The positives...well a beautiful river view, and a wonderfully designed interior. Ok....now the rest.....the staff seemed to be focusing more on setting up tables(in an empty restaurant), than serving the customers...with the exception of the young man who initially served us. The owner was at the till counting the pennies....the food was more fuel than food, relatively bland and overcooked, there was a patio heater in the middle of the restaurant instead of being on the patio where the customers would have benefited from it ....all this place needed was Basil Fawlty shouting " don't mention the war!" And the cliche would have been complete!. On a Saturday night, by the river the restaurant was barely 20% full. A shame....a bit more attention to detail and the customers could make all...

Delicious! Cozy and romantic little restaurant where the service is warm, welcoming, friendly, and kind. I felt like a was guest visiting friends. I went two nights in a row! The food temperature was spot on! Both the food and service were consistent. When a menu is small it’s a good sign what they do they do very well and this was definitely the case! I really enjoyed myself on both nights! The first night with friends and the second night solo. The server was very hospitable and even split the checks for the group. I highly recommend this gem of a restaurant that has been in operation since 1963! It’s the oldest restaurant in Boavista and family run since the beginning. I was taken care of by the entire family! Brought my wife there for a special birthday for a nice fillet steak dinner. Everything was great until main course, one steak plate was left on the counter for about 5 mins while servers seemed to disagree on something, they seemed to be a bit stressed. Anyway one of them brought the plate to us and when we objected it caused even more stress between the serving team. Eventually two new plates arrived and served with no apology. The contents looked smaller than the original so we felt punished. The steaks were really nice so it's a pity the servers performance was poor.
