OLÁ VIETNAM RESTAURANT — Restaurant in Porto

Location and the exterior design is nice. Food is good. Price is reasonable. But there are some details based on my personal experience.

June 3, 2022.

I was very happy to see a Vietnamese resto in the area and without thinking I went there for lunch.

I asked if Spanish bank card is accepted and it was not possible, so I went to the nearest ATM machine.

After my food was served and I was eating midway, the server interrupted my meal and he asked me where did I withdraw the money (as if they were suspicious if I will pay or not). And he was asking the exact details of the location where I went.

The food was great but I wasn't able to enjoy it halfway because I felt judged and all. And there was a distrust to a client like me.

When I was about to pay, they show me a receipt where 5% discount is not included. The resto offers 5% discount lunch and dinner from Monday to Friday).

So I asked for another receipt and the change is not exact, it was short of .50 cents. I paid 30 euros and the change is not exact (see photo).

I was already tired of asking again and want to finish my meal so I just let it pass.

The experience could have been perfect but I am quite sad it is not.

Still I give 2 stars for the good food and comfortable vibe...

TL:DR Amazing food, good prices but they only accept cash for now.

Edit: Owner said this was being taken care off. I wil amend next time I'm there. Because there will certainly be a next time, The food was indeed very nice.

During my 2 visits here every time someone wanted to pay with plastic they had some stupid excuse why the machine would not work. They never told anyone beforehand so I have seen quite a few walking away to find an ATM. These 2 visits were about a month apart. So if you show up here for good food, bring cash.

Service was friendly and prompt, prices are very good.. it's that whole pretending that the credit card machine just doesn't work that day that sets me off. If the owner gets that sorted out, this will be my go to place every time...

Came here with a group of friends for lunch. The restaurant has a cute patio. We ordered a few things and it was hit and miss.

Shrimp tempura - it shouldn’t be called tempura, because it didn’t have tempura batter. It come with a good dipping sauce though.

Spring roll was about average.

Pho bo - the broth was okay, average. The noodles has slight stale flavor. It needs more meat - for €16 , I expected more. Should come with more herbs on the side as well.

Vietnamese iced coffee - it was truly a disappointment. It’s pretty much condensed milk with watered down pale brown water. I couldn’t taste the coffee at all. I have had Vietnamese coffee from many places. This was was the worse.

The service wasn’t good either. The server wasn’t knowledgeable about the menu.
