Canât actually comment on the food here, as after 10 painful minutes, my family and I walked out. 2 waiters at the entrance on arrival chatting. We asked to be seated and they pointed at the outdoor area without stopping their chat. No menus on the table and no service, so we walk inside to look for menus and a waiter. No waiters seem ready to assist and we have to approach a lady to ask her if we need to order inside or through a waiter. She tells us to sit down and sheâll be with us. I take my own menu from a vacant table and another seemingly unattentive waiter suddenly spurred into action, and suddenly grabbed the menu from my hands telling me there are menus on the tables outside. I tell my wife and she goes to give the waiter a piece of her mind in Portuguese and advises him that there are NO menus on our table outside. No apology and still NO menus!! At this stage Iâm raging to leave and the final straw is when the waitress from inside that advised us to sit, finally comes out to serve another table. We ask her for the menu since the one I had was repossessed and she tells us that we need to wait for the waiter for our section, who was possibly the menu police guy. That was the final straw!!! When you have to fight to see a menu and order, what will the rest of the experience be like. Your product can never be so good that your staff have the right to treat the people that pay their salaries like stray dogs. The view might be great but that promenade has a lot more restaurants that are deserving of a touristâs hard earned cash!! Save yourself the pain. Their nataâs might be âof goldâ but their service is closer to the...
Read moreFor our last day we decided to go for natas with a twist. We had eaten the traditional ones before so it was interesting to taste other flavours of the tasty pastries.
We went early morning and noticed the staff was stretched thin, with only two serving, cooking and, making beverages for a fairly busy crowd. While I'm not sure if this was a common occurrence, if you're in a hurry I would suggest skipping any beverages and opting just for the natas.
I opted for the port wine, orange and Caipirinha natas. There are also other flavours - traditional, lemon and chocolate. I prefer a crispy base rather than a soggy one, so was extremely happy with these. My favourite amongst the three was definitely the Port flavour - it was not boozy but the distinct flavour of Port wine we had tasted during our stay really stood out. It was also not too sweet. I was less impressed with the orange, as I had found it a little too sweet for my liking and found the Caipirinha bland and...
Read moreThe most memorably delicious Natas! I tried the port and orange flavors, both just a touch of flavor and 100% delectable. My friend had the port and the original.
As we finished our little breakfast, the small shop got loud, and I turned around to see the shop filled up with local old/middle aged men getting coffee and chatting. It must be a popular local meet up place.
We traveled in Portugal from Christmas to New Years, 2021. We ate Natas daily. This was the second Natas shop in Porto (and Portugal) that we tried, and the one we kept remembering for the rest of the trip.
At the end of the trip, in Lisbon, after trying the original Pasteis de Natas in Belem, my friend kept saying the best were the ones...
