This is the worst food I ever ate at any restaurant anywhere. That chicken was not only killed but massacred and abused. I swear I didn't imagine it possible that chicken fillet could be maltreated like that! Dry potatos with superdry chicken - not my cup of tea. Do NOT go there, go somewhere or even ANYWHERE else! If you enjoy food and you don't have a clue I recommend INTRIGO (very delicious food, very cosy environment, very good service) or GUARANY (the steak with shrimp is in my personal top 5 of the best steaks ever). If you don't want to spend an arm and a leg try Martins Restaurant - which is an entire different category of restaurant to the before mentioned but still offers reasonable food at reasonable prices. (I ate pork chops with fries for 6.75 Euros, my better half had the cod, we drank a bottle of wine and walked home happily.) At Solar Do Patio my instinct advised me to escape - unfortunately, however, I took chances. Worst food ever (even though we waited 1.5 hours for it to be served), miserable service, warm drinking water in plastic bottles, no wine glasses, unbearable heat from the kitchen below. You can't even wash your hands after you used the toilet -it is like a bad dream come true. Do yourself a favour and go...

Great food in a beautiful setting!

We loved the cheerful yellow exterior of this restaurant and decided to stop in for lunch. So glad we did! The space has been recently renovated, though it keeps some key elements of its original construction, giving it a cozy yet modern feel. The owners told us about its renovation and we loved hearing about the history of this restaurant that has been in the family for 300 years.

It has been recently reopened under new management (three weeks before our visit) and the care and attention to details showed. They helped us pick out some wonderful local Douro wine and we then were served a delicious meal with the best teriyaki chicken ever, delicious shrimp risotto and a nice mushroom polenta. Presentation and taste were both excellent. One of us chose desert over soup (included in lunch) and while we thought the soup was delicious, the chocolate gelato was truly divine.

We loved everything about this restaurant: the pretty yellow photo-worthy exterior, the food, the wine, the atmosphere and the friendly staff. We will be back next time we...

We had our last dinner in Portugal at the restaurant and it was our best dining experience until the end of the meal. when giving us the desert menu the owner knocked and broke a full red wine glass on our table, spilled all over my wife ruining her jacket, blouse and pants. It also spilled on my shirt and pants. The owner, who was extremely active in the dining room apologized and then went downstairs and never was seen again. I thought this was cowardly, he offered port wine, which we did not drink. He honestly never came back to the dining room, he didn't offer to clean it and most of the outfit was brand new. He didn't offer any solution. We are not people that look for comps but there was no attempt to address the issue. By he time we arrived in France the outfit had to be discarded. This was a horrible representation of service and complete failure of leadership. We paid our $300 bill plus a tip plus an attempted cleaning bill. Don't run and hide when you ruin someone's night, stand up an be an owner that...

O Solar do Patio Restaurant was our favorite restaurant during our recent two week stay in Portugal! The new owner was so welcoming and spent time explaining his new endeavor. The limited menu will change every few months, with selections chosen by the chef using the freshest local ingredients. The restaurant, close to Bolsa Palace, is set back from the street in a little patio. We ate indoors in the charming dining room, but they also have outdoor seating on the patio. The evening started with complimentary olives and a cod croquette-no, not the kind you find elsewhere, it was creamy inside with a small drop of aioli on top. My husband and I continued with a cod main that had homemade chips on top-delicious, and my description does not do it justice. I ended my meal with the decadent chocolate brownie dessert. And, I must mention, the owner helped us pick out wine based on our preferences and he was spot on! We loved our night at O Solar do Patio Restaurant in Porto!
