I always find it extremely difficult settling on just one place when choosing hotels. It’s hard to grasp if a hotel is well located, if the pictures are a true depiction of the place, etc. InPatio Guest House absolutely surpassed all our expectations. The owners Olga and Fernando are extremely gracious, taking great care of all their guests. The rooms are gorgeous: clean, new with a touch of the original building, super comfortable beds, crisp white linens and one of the most comfortable, pampering bathrooms we’ve been in. It’s location can’t be beat either. It’s located very close to the Douro, in the middle of the historic neighborhood, allowing you to walk everywhere. It’s tucked in a little patio, sheltering the street noise and allowing for a sense of privacy even though you’re in the middle of where everything happens... Last but not least, the breakfast is AMAZING. Olga and Fernando go through great lengths to bring you an assortment of typical Portuguese meats and cheese, alongside a basket of freshly baked bread and homemade jams and cakes every day. They use local goods and give you some background info on the products and where they come from. I can’t recommend this place enough. If you’re thinking about it, and are considering a few others, just go for it... you won’t be...
Read moreThis was one of the best guest houses we have ever stayed in, and Olga and Fernando are the best hosts we have encountered during our travels.||The guest house is superb. Everything is spotless. All amenities you would expect and the little extras that make such a difference, such as biscuits and port.||The rooms are beautifully decorated, both the standard and superior rooms - but I wouldn't hesitate to book the superior rooms as they are just exquisite.||Breakfast is a feast to last you the whole day, which Olga describes with so much enthusiasm and explains where the meats and cheeses come from etc.||Everyone is so helpful and friendly, offering advice on trips or public transport, or anything you may ask.||You also have access to the breakfast room at all times, so It's also good to have somewhere you can go to eat a snack in the afternoon/evening should you wish. Fruit and water is always on offer as well.||All in all, we would highly recommend this. Book early as they are always busy.||We cannot wait to go back!||Hugh thank you to Olga, Fernando and Junior (and the lovely smiley lady who cleaned the rooms, sorry I don't know your name).||Best wishes to you all from...
Read moreA small hotel hidden inside a patio off a busy street. Perfect location for exploring the Porto River front (Ribeira) on foot. A couple of blocks to the Stock Exchange Palace and the St Francis Cathedral (to see the gilded alter). A bit of a walk uphill to the Sao Bento Train Station to see the 10,000 blue tiles. On the way down, stroll Flores Street for the shops and eateries galore. For the adventurous, you can walk across the Dom Luis Bridge to the Vila Nova de Gaia waterfront.||Our room on the top floor was comfortable though not large. Lots of stairs (not for the mobility challenged), though they do have a small “dumb waiter” lift to bring up your luggage. The owners Olga and Fernando prepare and serve breakfast themselves - delicious, multi-course meal, with Olga explaining each item, mostly locally sourced or from their own garden.||Beware that some taxi and Uber drivers don’t want to stop at the hotel because of the busy traffic. We had to walk across the road to the plaza/park to...
