Good location but cold food. Found this nice place on a backstreet, so thought we give it a go. But that was a mistake! Got a great spot on the upper floor and ordered the salmon and the rump steak. I took some time to get the food, but when we got it, cold... I had a couple of minutes before our dish came noticed that the food elevator from the downstairs kitchen had made a noice, the server opened up the hatch and walked away, I then realize that it is our food sitting in the door waiting to be served, but no one served us the food until several minutes later. I told the waiter the food was a bit cold, he just said "I'm sorry, please enjoy". I ate a cold steak, bad did not enjoy... So, it could have been more, the taste of the meat and onion sauce was fairly tasteless, and boring chips and a gigantic broccoli was the side dish, all cold that as well. Only gets a two star for the location, otherwise I only deserves a one. To bad... Well I recommend you go somewhere else, maybe the burger place on the other side of the street.

We tried to come here last year but was not able to as we were a big group and got turned away. We tried to go back this time with just 2 of us and the experience was totally different. The restaurant is small so i understand why they don’t like larger group as they have very small space. Food was. Excellent but dishes are big so we did not manage to try their signature dish- fish and rice cooked in broth which looks like it can feed 6. All salads were very well done and i had the codfish fitters 6 pieces which also was big as a starter. We also had lamb which came with some vegetables. They have their own wine which is very decent. I do recommend going back in a slightly bigger group to try their signature dish. It is an institution and we saw a lot of Portuguese people lunching there.

My boyfriend and I went to this restaurant because our friends raved about how good one of their dishes was. We got there and were planning to order quite a few dishes since we love to try a bunch of foods. However, when we told the waiter we wanted to order three dishes, he denied our request and said that’s too much. We then had him seldom check on us and we had to remind him to do quite a few things. Then, we went to order dessert and I ordered a creme brûlée and I asked for a side of ice cream. He then DENIED my request because ice cream wouldn’t go with it… I was extremely upset about it and then the dessert he did bring out was curdled and chunky. We then asked him to take it off the bill or to make a new one and he tried to argue with me and say it was made just an hour ago and that people around me were eating it; however, a creme brûlée should not be made within an hour and if it is chunky and curdled, any high class restaurant would send it back immediately and fix the issue. I am EXTREMELY disappointed in this restaurant and will not be returning due to poor service. I would not recommend going.

Hi, thank you for your response.

I would like to address your first statement that we requested four dishes, including the “sardinha petinga” and the “bolinhos de bacalhau”. We did not request four dishes, nor did we request two of the dishes you said we did. In fact, we specifically stated we did not want any seafood (bacalhau is codfish and sardinha petinga are sardines-both fish). We had requested the cabidela, a steak, and the sausage, so that is your first mistake. We stated we wanted to order quite a bit even after our waiter told us it would be too much, to which he continued to deny our request. We knew we may not be able to finish it all. Second, I did not ask for an ice cream on top. I requested it alongside the custard dish, to which I was told “no”. I do not care if another dessert goes “with” the one I ordered, for I well know the difference and that it may not “go well” with my dish. I still requested it, fully prepared to pay for it, and was denied. Also, regarding your claim that I could “have had it with your Rabanada Caseira,” our waiter informed us after we were denied the ice cream that you did not even HAVE ice cream the night we dined with you, so we could not have had any with that dish like you stated. Third, regarding your statement of the water, I would certainly hope you did not charge for water out of your tap water. We were not told you sold bottles of water, but even so, we had requested tap water so there would have been no reason to charge us. I’ve never heard of such foolishness. The only other food we had, which is all we were permitted, was just fine. Now that you mention it, the cabidela chicken could have been cooked slightly less as it was dry.

I will not be returning to the restaurant, especially after you made false claims of what we requested to order and stating that you were being generous in not charging for tap water.

Awful restaurant. First it’s a mess to try to get a table, then the waiters have no idea about the menu and if you ask a question they literally read it out loud to you from the menu as if you were stupid - we are brazilians, so we speak fluent portuguese and it was not a language barrier issue. We were in 5 people and we had to wait for way over 1 hour for our dishes, which came wrong and one of them did not arrive until about 20minutes after the others - all of us were done when the last dish came. When questioned about the wrong dish and the delay, they started to make excuses saying we, the customer, were the wrong ones. The waiter did not write any of the dishes down either. The cod was extremely salty, they can’t even get that together. The bread and olive oil are basically mandatory as it’s in every table and costs you 2.5$ per person - no one told us about this. The bread was good, however we were in 5 and there were only 3 slices.. we asked for more bread and said they were out (restaurant opened at 12pm and we got here 12:30pm). Manager came to speak to us, but again just making excuses - they even said the lack of bread was because it was a holiday (the holiday was the day before). Absolutely terrible. The restaurant is supposed to have many awards, including for 2023 - but i really have not idea why. The only award deserved is for the most...

Food was good but extremely salty. We found a fly inside the soup and no one apologize for it neither we got compensation for it. This things happen but at least you can say sorry. Besides that when we sat in the table there was a small plate of rabbit stew, bread and olive oil. We did not request this but assumed it was from the house and if was not we assumed we will be charged a symbolic amount for it (as many other places in the world you get charged for bread). We were surprised to see we were charged nearly 10 euros for these, including olives that we did not get. When we complained the manager approached us and gave us a long talk on how the business needs to get money for the things they serve and that he has been in the business for more than 18 years and tried to convinced us this is a cultural thing and it’s normal in Portugal. When we asked him to show us where this items were in the menu he told us the stew was in the lunch menu and not on the dinner menu, and finally he deleted this from our bill. So rude and ridiculous, you cannot charge without asking and you cannot charge things that are not in the menu. Food was was good but...
