After seeing the highly rated reviews for Taberna Real do Fado, I made a reservation. Unfortunately it was an underwhelming experience overall. I’ll start with the positives. The service was friendly. The singers had fantastic voices, but the show lacked the intimacy and emotion of other fado performances I’ve seen. We were celebrating 2 birthdays in our group, and they sang happy birthday and brought out a slice of cheesecake with a candle, which was fun and thoughtful. The food was not very good. There is so much good food in Porto, you just won’t find it at Taberna Real do Fado. The pataniscas de bacalhau appetizers and bacalhau com broa main dish were very fishy and lukewarm. The padron peppers were the highlight of the meal. We didn’t finish our appetizers or main dishes. The crème brûlée was cold and gelatinous and didn’t taste like crème brûlée. The cheesecake tasted like a dense whipped cream. Overall we made the most of the evening, but we would not return. It was just too mediocre.

Friendly and attentive staff. We got 4 entrees, a choice of main and a choice of dessert, a bottle of white or red wine, and water for 40 euros each. This included a Fado performance in between each of the courses. The entire experience lasts 3 hrs. The food wasn’t anything mind-blowing but it was filling and tasty. Wished the cod fritters were served hot but they were cold. Which turned me off eating them. The coated sausages were yum. Also got bread / olives but forgot to take a pic. Enjoyed the steak. Fyi : If you ask for your steak to be “well done” it will come out medium well which is what I like anyway. For dessert, go for the cheesecake! It was delicious. Light and not too sweet with a yummy base. The white wine was good (not too sweet, a little fruity and easy to drink). The night was unique and a fun thing to do when in Porto. My tips: Book in advance and show up early so you get to pick the best table.

I booked a month ahead and got confirmation instantly. It says it starts at 8pm, but the actual fado did not start until 8:40pm. But I am glad I went early so that I could pick a table closer to the performers. They took the order first. Then quickly the first course was served. There were three appetizers. Only until then the performance started. There were three guitarists, one male singer and one female singer. Turned out one of the waiter or manager at the restaurant was one the singers. His voice was amazing, as if there was an amplifier in his chest. After a couple of songs, then it’s a break and the main course was serviced. Then performance again, afterwards was the dessert. All the dishes were very delicious, cooked to perfection. The fado performance was touching and captivating. Yes, it’s expensive. With the set menu meal, water and drinks, I spent over €50 but it was worth the experience.

We went for the fado show. Fado was ok but, after the appetizers, they sang 4 songs, then they stopped for us to eat the main course. After that 4 more songs and they stopped for dessert. 4 more songs and that's it. 12 songs 2 min each and we stayed there for more than 3 hours. So the food must be something good. But it was something horrible!! You start with bread olives and packed butter, ok. The cod fish croquetes were cold and not even a little crunchy with the taste of wet bread. The rolled chicken was coming with a nice taste but with no chicken inside. The green peppers was the most tasty dish and I loved it! The steak that we ordered as the main course was raw. We looked around us and nobody had the courage to eat more than the half. The cod fish, the second option, could be better. The milk cream was my partner's best and a really good choice. The cheesecake I ordered was flafy but with no taste. The house wine we ordered was a very good vinegar. We payed 38 each! and that was the minimum price a person is allowed to pay there. You can have more expensive wines, special wines to join the meal but you have to pay extra money. At the end the fado singer even asked us to buy his CDs... It's a...

One of our most unfortunate experience in Portugal. We reserved a table for two, the food was very expensive compared to the portions and the quality, the service was one of the worst that I ever had. I just wanted to leave. We got with a reservation, table for two. We noticed that the one waiter had allot of pressure so we were patient at the beginning. We waited 15 minutes just to get a menu, no one even talked to use till I finally asked for menu and the barman told us that there's actually no menus available in the restaurant. After a long time the waiter finally came, didn't even apologised, and made me feel like a cheap person when I tried to figure out a portion of a certain dish, we were so hungry and we just wanted to know the size. After a long waiting we got the starter which was nice. Afterwards the fado show started and it was the only good thing in this place. We waited non less than two whole hours for our main dishes, we were starving by than, just wanted to eat and leave, the food was just ok, very expensive compared to the price and service, the waiter gave us the bill with a phone in his ear, completely...

Intro:

Hauswein TOP! Rot wie Weiß ...

Oliven sehr gut mit frischem Baguettebrötchen. "Fängt schon Mal gut an."
