Unfortunately, my partner and I had a really unpleasant experience here which stemmed from the food we received. Staff seemed nice however quickly switched when I asked if we could take the burgers back as they were not cooked.
The burgers were ground beef burgers (not steak) and my partner’s was raw in the middle. We asked a waitress over to see if they could replace them with one that was more cooked. After the waitress took them back to replace we waited about 15 minutes and got them back to our table again. We did not get a fresh burger but instead received the same dish back. When they came back they were cold and there hadn’t seemed to be any change. The photo attached is what the inside of the burger looked like after it was supposedly recooked. We understand this variation of the burger may be standard for Portugal however we gave them the chance to rectify this and were very polite in our request.
At this point my partner and I did not want to risk eating it and I spoke to the waitress to look about removing the burger from our bill - I happily offered to pay for the chips etc but was not happy to pay for meat that wasn’t cooked.
I went up to pay for the bill and the owner/manager was very rude. Initially she ignored me whilst I stood at the counter and then said she would not remove it from the bill. She remarked that it was our fault that we didn’t come up and ask them to cook it for a third time - I think passing this blame to the customer was really unprofessional. Additionally, the waitresses never asked us how our food was after receiving it back, and we clearly weren’t eating it so I’m not sure why this was a surprise that we didn’t want it.
The manager insisted that I was still to pay for the burger, so I went back to my table and brought it over to her to show how undercooked it was. When I took it up to her, her expression changed and she immediately offered to take the burgers off of the bill - clearly seeing it was inadequate.
This interaction could have been much better if the owner was apologetic and understanding of the situation in the first place. I’m never one to complain but in this situation it merited sending the food back - with better staff service and a more customer centric attitude this could have been forgiven. However when the staff who received my payment grabbed me again, saying I have to check whether I made the payment or not, but after holding me for a minute or two, he confirmed that I had made the payment and he never said sorry at all.
I am pretty sure this is racist. If you are manager of the store please do some acting about this and do reply this my google experience. If you do not act or reply about this, I will note this on Yelp as well in May 2025.
