Café Saudade — Restaurant in Sintra

We got there about 45 minutes to close and they sat us in (what we later found out to be) the 'cheese room.' The room was a space to behold. It features:

1. A slanted floor 1A) entirely too much floor drainage (?!)
2. weird ceramic stuff all over the place (bowls, platters, an ebony and ivory set of chickens, an aligator
3. exposed wiring 3A) a fire alarm that is literally suspended by exposed frayed wires and that appears to have already been in a fire
4. 2 tables total, so I hope you like your neighbor.
5. a shared hallway with the kitchen so you get to hear them clean and bus dishes the entire time

When traveling, I really try not to be stuck up about food. And truly, the food itself was pretty good (if a little on the expensive side - they upcharge you 1.25 euro to heat your sandwich). It is simply inexplicable how that dining room came to be in existence. In my entire life, I have never before had to ask wait staff 'what' a room was. The front dining room is fine, so clearly someone knew what a normal restaurant looks like. Simply...

Food and cheese cake were ok , but we got overcharged. The bill once paid showed more expensive items like XL Latte instead of ordered Galao and double espresso instead of single. We didn’t argue not to waste time , but it left unpleasant feeling after sweet decent dessert so just be careful if you look like a tourist Update : I got reply from owner , yes , I am totally sure what I ordered and showed in the menu with my finger , had discussion specifically stating that I want single espresso and waitress spoke perfect English or I would speak basic Portuguese otherwise. Also prices are fine, didn’t complain. It’s just unpleasant to see when they charge more than you ordered for 2 items. We never mentioned XL latte , we don’t drink latte and xl not even in the menu!!! But it’s on the bill ! And I either got double espresso which is not good for my heart OR paid for double coffee. Either way not acceptable a I mentioned multie times I want single. I changed to 3 stars as food was good , but may be you need to make better...

Amazing food and drinks, even better service! Even though it’s Christmas Eve, nobody was skimping on quality (or quantity). To drink, we had 2 lattes, a glass of milk and a green juice for the 4 of us. The juice was excellent (very refreshing) and the lattes better than the majority here in Portugal. We ordered 2 berry scones, 1 chocolate scone, and a slice of apple and walnut cake. Due to no fault of the restaurant, somebody just managed to get the last slice of cake before us, so we ordered apple pie instead. No disappointments whatsoever, absolutely massive portions (we eat a lot and left over half a scone), the scones were fluffy with a nice crusty outside but still not dry on the inside, the sweetness of the condensed milk on the pie perfectly balanced by the fresh apple slices. Would definitely come here again, particularly grateful to our server whose name we didn’t get (and who complemented our jumpers). Excellent English...
