After a good day of walking through the Castelo de Tomar, we ventured into the very cozy and dynamic city/town of Tomar. Most restaurants were closed and yet we stumbled upon this great location, Tabernáculo do Rio. The chef was kind enough to take us in as we were contemplating eating snacks to conquer the hunger pangs at 5 pm. We asked what he recommended and WOW!!!!! Brings to life the saying “when in Portugal, eat like the Portuguese!” And his plates were super tasty and so filling!! Read moreA bit like I would imagine a visit to a tavern during medieval times - the place was a bit dark and didn't seem overly friendly in the beginning and there was no menu so we just went with the owner's/chef's recommendation without even knowing the prices.
But trust me when I say, the food that came to our table was finger-licking-good and made with love. The owner also turned out to be very kind and caring and we just had a wonderful dinner. Read moreThis restaurant was such an unexpected surprise. We weren’t sure where to go but picked this one based on the reviews and they were spot on!! On a cold January night you couldn’t ask for a more perfect atmosphere or food. The owner was absolutely delightful as well. It’s so cool how authentic all of the meals are. With so many dates ranging from medieval times. We got a chili, a stew and a curry type dish and EVERYTHING was excellent!! We’ve been in Tomar for almost a week now and this place is still our favorite place...
