Al Qarmouty Seafood Souq Waqif — Restaurant in Doha

I enjoy exploring restaurants away from the hustle and bustle of the main walkways. This gem requires a bit of nous to find, as it’s a relatively long walk between the buildings around Souq Wakif.

A lane way just after you pass the big golden thumb is populated with reassuring signs as you make your way. There is an upstairs and downstairs eating area and I chose upstairs.

The seats were old and worn out, but comfortable enough. The tables were beautiful glass and I was actually a little disappointed when they were covered up by plastic disposable tablecloths. Seafood can be a messy business!

I asked the waiter what he recommended and ordered a sea bass. The meal was superb. Accompanied by breads and dips, and a lovely seafood broth to start.

The pricing was very good, the huge meal for 68 Riyal.

The staff were friendly and attentive - admittedly it was not busy. But still I walked away very happy my curiosity had found this place.

Here is one of the best places to have seafood in Souq Waqif. I ordered seafood soup and mixed seafood platter. Both were very behind and very tasty.

There is only one thing to consider. In spite of the good quality food, the service in the restaurant is very poor. The main reason is that they are seriously understaffed. It took 15 minutes for someone to take my order and clean the table from the previous customer. After that, it took about another 30 minutes for the food to come, and both my starter and main course came at the same time. They agreed to keep my main course hot until I was done with the starter. Also, very simple things like salt and pepper or tissues are missing from the tables, and you need to ask.

Food was not bad, but honestly, there are places with better food and affordable prices. What made me disappointed is service. From the beginning we was waiting a long time waiter , after calling few times came Egyptian guy and asked for order , while we are saying our order he cut some peace of some paper and start writing the order. Still, it's ok, but when they brought the wrong order, and this waiter came to blame me that I ordered the same, not different!!! It made me make the decision to never come back there again.
