Bratislava Flagship

flagship is one of the popular bratislava restaurants that serves latvian cuisine. the restaurant decoration and building is very nice and cool (built in a theater) but the food was quite disappointing (taste wise) and resulted into us having stomach aches.

the restaurant is located in the upper floor of an old renovated theater. when you first arrive, it seems completely quiet and you think you're in the wrong place, but go inside and up the stairs. the interior is very pretty.

dishes include traditional latvian cuisine. it's a touristy restaurant so the prices are higher.

// slovak platter for 2 persons (21 euros): dumplings with sheep cheese, 5 pirogi with sheep cheese, dumplings with cabbage and bacon // the platter looks medium in pictures but it is actually quite big and very filling. someone else mentioned that the 3 dishes are basically the same ingredients so it can feel like you're eating the same thing, which i agree.

my main complaint is that all the dishes were extremely salty. i think it was due to the fried bacon on the top, but it was wayyy too salty. overall, all dishes just tasted like a pile of very heavy carbs, cream, and salt. the dumplings with cabbage and bacon was maybe the most tolerable since it was the least heavy, but even so the food didn't have much flavor aside from salt and oil. we had quite upset stomachs after eating here.

// cabbage soup (4.50 euros) // this was probably the only decent dish i tried. it had a little bit of meat in it and cabbage which gave it the slight sourness. however, even this dish was too salty.

service was also quite slow. we kept waiting for our server to bring our check but she disappeared and then we had to ask multiple times.

overall, i was disappointed that this was my one meal while in bratislava. maybe if you really like latvian cuisine that's salty and oily/heavier meals, it may be for you. however, this was by far my least favorite meal i ate in europe.
