Not my first review for this place.
I bring all my out of country visitors here because I love the food, location and atmosphere so much. This time it is my brother and his girlfriend visiting from Florida.
We arrived and sat outside since it was super nice and already passed the scorching mid-day sun. The staff was standing and chatting at the doorway going in to the restaurant from the terrace. The menus were at the table already so we were able to check them out but needed 1 menu in English (available). While waiting on our server, I started explaining some of the traditional SK items on the menu.
5-6 minutes have passed since we sat down and still no one stopped by so I got up and went to ask the staff for menu in English which I found near them but still asked.
5 min after me getting the menu in Eng. someone finally acknowledged that we were sitting there and came by to take our “drink order” to which I replied that we are ready to place the entire order. Servers response was “oh ok” as if we just sat down.
I do have to say she provided excellent service and our drinks were full and food was delicious as always.
For the restaurant: the new Steak Tartare presentation is beautiful. The only thing I don’t understand is why it went up 4€ currently 16.89€ and does not come with toast as it did before. Each toast is additional charge!
And I do understand inflation!
Overall experience was good but staff should pay more attention to their sections as a team and at least acknowledge the table letting them know that someone will be right with them and let the server of the station know that they got new...
Read moreI know that hyperbole makes some people roll their eyes and get skeptical of whatever follows, but I have no other way of expressing how I feel about the food I just ate: the pork knee meal at Meštiansky Pivovar was practically a religious experience for me.
For one, it was one of the tastiest meals I've had in a long time. Every single component of it — the pork, the sauerkraut, the bread, and the laške — had such a full, rich flavour to it, and combining them created a near-divine blend of tastes and textures. At one point, I had a particularly crispy bit of pork with the bread and sauerkraut, and my eyes legitimately started tearing up at how delicious it was.
Second, it was SO MUCH FOOD. I'm normally a pretty dedicated eater, but even though I had this meal at 10pm after lunching at 1pm and spending the entire intervening time exploring the city on foot, I still barely managed to clean my plate. And for only 12€, this much food that tastes this good is an amazing find.
To top it all off, the staff were very kind, helpful, and skilled in English (for the record, I did ask "hovoriš po anglicky?" before launching into the English, rather than assuming ahead of time — thanks, Google Translate!), so I had no trouble whatsoever with placing my order or paying the bill.
All told: if you're feeling hungry after a long day of exploring all Bratislava has to offer, I cannot recommend Bratislavsky Meštiansky Pivovar...
Read moreToday my boyfriend and I had lunch at the 3rd floor, I have no issues with the food and atmosphere here. This one star is completely because of one waitress in black suit on the 3rd floor. She is so rude and impatient, I showed her a picture of a dish (chicken breast and rice) then ordered that. I waited for 30 min and the dish didn’t come. Then we asked the other waitress to check, after 10 minutes the rude one came back and started to argue with me, she said:” you only showed me the photo but you didn’t order.” I was like:???? Firstly, I did order. Secondly, as a waiter, if you find that you made a mistake, shouldn’t you say sorry and fix the problem? She was very combattive and rude to me even though we tried to be very nice about it. After that, we STILL waited there for another 30 min, no food. We had to leave because we need to catch the train, then we went to the manager. She was very nice and lovely and she was very sorry for us. She apologised and gave us a discount (of course I didn’t pay for the chicken). All in all, please fire the waitress, not only for the reputation of your restaurant, but for the city. Generally I had a great time in Bratislava, except...
