We’ve had chimney cakes over the past two weeks in three cities, Prague, Budapest, and Bratislava, and this place, by far serves the best we’ve tried. You can smell the baked dough from the corner as you turn off Michalská ulica, such a lovely, heartfelt aroma that makes you feel wrapped in warmth. The outside layer is glazed just the right golden brown and the inside layer is so soft and kinda fluffy. We discovered this place completely by chance, even though we’ve been staying just a few steps away. In our opinion, chimney cakes aren’t very popular in Bratislava, as we couldn’t easily find another chimney cake shop in the Old Town.
The first time we came, we were served by a man who mostly communicated through gestures and short 1–3 word sentences. Unfortunately, there was absolutely no sense of customer care or mindfulness in the service
But honestly, the interaction lasted less than 2 mins so we did not get bothered at all, the delicious chimney cakes will stay in our heart for a long time that is what really matters. So for the delicious chimney cakes and the good service provided by another staff, we gladfully rate the shop 5 stars.
Just some additional notes for the prices. The chimney cake comes in a few flavors: cinnamon, vanilla, coconut and etc. and is charged Eur 5. For each additional topping, you are charged one extra euro and for ice cream 2 extra euro. It was a little difficult for us to understand the from...
Read moreAs a fan of chimney cake from the bavarian side, I was told by a guide that their Chimney cake is worth trying because they had many toppings and ice cream.
With the expecations of a piping hot chimney cake and ice cream, I am sold!
However, at the shop, we were looking around to see if what flavors they had for their ice cream, there wasnt any. What it had was: 1) Chimney flavors, 2) what inside toppings (nutella or sauces), 3) additional toppings (fruits), and lastly, 4) with whipped cream or not. No ice cream, disappointly.
In any case, we tried the one with Cinnamon and Nutella. Verdict being, not that great. Maybe the dough used wasn't the one I'm familiar with. The cake is closer to a biscuit-cake mix. Brittle and crumbly when eaten.
The biscuit is also lacking in a good coat of cinnamon sugar. I had the impression that chimney cake should have a good side of melted sugar and recoated again with the sugar so it has a glaze over it and also well "Sweetened." But no, it was instead lightly coated with sugar and doused in nutella on the inside.
Aside from the nice cone shape dessert, I don't think I would visit for a 2nd visit.
Cinnamon Sugar +...
Read moreThis place is NOT HALAL, and the staff lied to us about it. My husband and I are Muslims, and some time ago we specifically asked the staff whether the pastries were halal. They assured us that everything was fine and suitable for Muslims, so we trusted them and even recommended the place to our friends. But later discovered they use PORK OIL in the dough. It’s heartbreaking and disappointing to see so many Muslims eating here without knowing the truth. Please be honest with your customers. I really hope the management will take this seriously, stop misleading people, and start being transparent about the ingredients they use. Everyone deserves honesty and respect, no matter their religion...
