The space is nice, the staff was very welcoming HOWEVER and heres why theres however and only 2*: The name is "urban bistro" and the overall feeling, design and atmosphere doesn't match the business plan. We approached it thinking it would separate itself from the surrounding traditional cusine and caffeterias but were disappointed as the place cannot accomodate most of the food intolerances or allergies. We brought up this issue last year for an owner to reconsider but seemed we were ignored since we are "just" customers. Wouldnt recommend this place as it isnt anything special and you can get both better or same quality drinks and coffee and food literaly elsewhere and everywhere around for the same price. The staff was welcoming however it took more than 20 minutes to get our orders... People seated after us got theirs before we did? We felt as in todays world where people might have different dietary restrictions there would be more options for plant based milk that is also gluten free (oat milk which is the only plant based option they have - is often processed with wheat therefore it isnt gluten free unless it has the label...). Another * lost were due to not knowledgeble staff. Even if you ask the staff is not knowledgeble of the contents of foods and drinks and cannot advise in case you do have some allergies and you need to be sure. They wont even ask, just tell you "idk". And lastly, when everything spirals downward you cant go wrong with least coffee, right? Apparently you can..., this place proved us even coffee can be bad. The coffee is an "urban bistro roast" which was supposed to he fruity and acidic however it tasted as if youd squeezed lemon into it. Utterly disappointed.
*to explain this with an example: if i see slovak koliba and go in, I expect the menu to be traditional, cheese, meaty, id expect that they wont have anything vegan nor glutenfree and i wouldn't t expect good coffee either. This place gives you urban vibes but only as a design from...
Read moreI've been a regular customer of this place for several years, but the attitude of the staff and chefs to criticism just changed everything in a minute. I ordered salted pancakes for breakfast and when I cut the first piece, I realized that the pancakes tasted bitter and the consistency was strange. They were completely covered with pickled lard and because of that they were very wet. I called for the waiter because no one came, the waitresses were too busy chatting and didn't notice the customers. The waiter took the food away and no one came to us to clarify the details. There was no offer to order something else either. Realizing that communication was at a standstill, I asked for the bill, which, of course, included those unfortunate pancakes. When I asked why they were on the check, the waitress answered me very arrogantly that everything was fine except for me, the cooks had tried my pancakes and decided that they were great. I always praise the food I like and constructively try to describe what I don't like, as happened today, because I got and tasted another dish in addition to the pancake. But the waitress, who was already treating us as customers very carelessly, just blew my mind today. I'm disappointed and very angry with this attitude towards a...
Read moreThe Pavlova cake was the best I ever had. The lavender-camomile tea sounded odd but turned out to be absolutely splendid.
My friends had coffee and loved it.
Great comfortable seating and long opening hours. For me a must visit again. EDIT I have now frequently returned when travelling trough and staying in Bratislava.
One of the most pleasant surprises is the avocado bread with cheese and pistachios. The cheese seems to be traditional slovak brynza cheese. That makes it a brilliant spin on a classic. Very tasty. Great as breakfast, with drinks or as a starter.
My favourite main is the chicken with pumpkin. Always done very well.
The blueberry cheesecake is my husbands top pick for its rich flavour and soft texture.
The best refreshing summer drink is in my opinion the passion fruit iced tea.
Only thing which is a miss is the chilli. It has nothing to do with chilli con carne. It has too much liquid, is not seasoned well and misses the spice. If you know the taste of the real deal, you will be unhappy with it. The cook never had it and it is just a terrible approximation. With almost everything on the menu being great I...
