Read moreWe stumbled upon Fat Louis while walking through Bratislava – the place looked nice, and the Cheesy Chicken Fingers on the menu photo looked pretty appealing. The portion seemed decent in the picture, so we decided to give it a try.
We ordered one portion of the Chicken Fingers, two beers, and a still water. Instead of being asked whether we wanted tap or bottled water, they just brought out an Italian bottled water (Aqua Panna), which costs almost €8. I hadn’t opened it and politely asked for local tap water instead – which they did bring in the end, but this kind of upselling without asking really shouldn’t happen.
Then the food arrived. The quality was good – fresh fries (definitely not frozen), tasty chicken, and a really nice cheese sauce. No complaints there. But the portion was extremely small – barely enough as a starter for one person. Calling it a main dish for €17 feels quite overpriced. I’d say it’s worth maybe €13–14 at most. So the price-to-portion ratio just didn’t add up.
Unfortunately, the service was disappointing. We had barely sat down when the waitress came to take our order – we hadn’t even looked at the menu yet. And throughout our meal, we were repeatedly asked if we wanted more drinks, even when our glasses were still half full. It felt overly pushy and focused on sales rather than hospitality.
Then came the bill. A 10% service charge was already included, which is fine. But after we paid, the waiter still asked directly if we’d like to leave a tip. I ended up giving one, even though I truly felt the service didn’t deserve it. Honestly, I’m just too nice and have a hard time saying no in situations like that – but it felt completely inappropriate to be put on the spot like that. Tip culture should never be about pressure.
One more thing: the restroom lighting was also pretty frustrating. There’s some kind of blacklight motion sensor system in place – the lights kept turning off while I was inside, and I had to move around just to get them to switch back on. Not ideal, especially in a dark space.
All in all: the location is nice, and the food tastes good – but the portions are small, the pricing is steep, and the service experience left a lot to be desired. I...
Read moreI agree with what many others have said: it's okay. Definitely not the best burger ever but also not terrible. Just a burger. Our server acted like she wanted to be anywhere but waiting tables. It was pretty drastic, like she would have preferred to have been at the dentist. I'm sorry for her and hope she can quit soon and find a job she actually likes but it didn't make us feel comfortable at the time. Believe me, I've had some miserable jobs I've hated in the past. I know what it's like to hate one's job, but working in customer service AND hating your job are not a good match. Good luck to her and good luck to you too if you...
