Looks can be deceiving, they will over charge you!!
Grand Mothers Resturant [Bratislava]
On arrival the outside looks quite quaint, traditional design with a homely feel of grandmothers home cooked meals.
Upon entry you are greeted with a cartoon pig chef statue grinning from ear to ear inviting and enticing you Inside the restaurant.
No reservation necessary during the day and they allow you to sit anywhere you like. Towards the back there is a mural on the wall of Bratislava town square with horse and cart from a time long a go which is very quaint.
Ordering from the menu proves that grandmother has a variety of traditional Slovak homely and tasty meals.
This is when the experienced turned. After waiting for what seemed like and eternity to get the waiters attention we ordered drinks and our main meals. Spicy chicken dish for the lady and the home meat skewers for myself as a growing boy.
After another long wait we finally received our meals and ordered more drinks seeming it felt like you had to seize the opportunity when you had the waiters attention.
it defiantly looked like a home cooked meal, warm filling and oozing in pork fat that made the hot chips soggy. The skewer was later on top of the potato chips making for the type of meal you would have at a family dinner looking nice and traditional. However, the taste was bland and needed a lot of salt, vegetables seemed undercooked and the only flavour was from the pork fat which dripped off the food like a lathered up body ready for an erotic massage.
The ladies meal was deceiving at best, no spice, no heat just chicken kebab meat in what appears to be sauce from a sweet and sour bottle drenched on her place.
Needless to say the meal was lack lustre at best, tough peace’s of meat and bland boring flavours.
At this stage we decided to make our way to pay and had been charged 65 EUR for our meals. At the time we didn’t Thi k much of it but as the service was rude, food was average and we spent more time waiting for service than eating we wanted to leave as soon as possible.
After eating around Bratislava for the next few days including enjoying some fine dining at the hotel Marriott, it was evident we had been the victim ina of a tourist trap at grand mothers restaurant. We over paid by about double seeming we didn’t order that much food or drinks. Speaking to our hotel staff on where to eat and how much we we can expect to pay In general we indeed got ripped off.
When we paid the waiter just said a random number so we paid but in the end I would NOT recommend dining here. poor service Tasteless food Making up higher numbers with payment Tourist...

The way they bill things is an absolute scam and they will cheat you out of your money and here's how they did it to us when we went to order a few beers, 2 soups and 1 dessert for 6 people:
They charged us a service charge for 7 people, but there were only 6 of us. We asked for 1 glass of water, they said "with gas or no gas?" we then asked for "tap water" in Slovak, they charged us 1 euro for a small glass of tap water ("soda" in the bill). When we asked for 1 ketchup, they brought us an entire ketchup bottle which you use at home, in the bill they charged us 3 EUROS for 2x "Kechup 60g". How do you know if I used 10 grams or 100 grams of the sauce? Did you measure it before and after we were done with the bottle? We only asked for 1 ketchup, why were we charged for 2 then? The total on screen was about 70 euros when we wanted to pay, the waiter then told us that splitting would not be possible (why not?) and that with the service charge it would be about 80 euros, then he proceeded to add 7 people worth of service for a table of 6 before printing the receipt which I have attached.
2nd time going here in 7 years and it has not changed its money hungry tourist scam ways. If you're looking for the authentic Slovak experience, THIS IS NOT IT. Based on their business model they will probably want to charge you for the air conditioning in summer season as well,...
