The restaurant had impressive decoration and dish presentation that we would love to try. Staffs were also dedicating and helpful. However, food was opposite. We expected more from the dishes. They looked professional, but tasted amateurish and bland, felt like trial home dishes. The "bún thịt nướng" showed efforts in chicken seasoning but lack of good sauce. The "phở chay" broth tasted like boiled water with some seasoning powder, not like with vegetables that were cooked for hours.
The waiting time was about 15-20 minutes for us, which was long. I hope they improve the cooking process soon.
If you'd like to have different taste from lots of western restaurants around the city, this could be your favorite. If you'd like to have authentic Vietnamese cuisine, I hardly recommend it.
Addition to owner's comments:
I wish you best of luck in the business. I believe it is and will be successful, and I love that Vietnamese cuisine is well recognized by good business. I hope you understand and take criticism as reference for improvements that lead to even more successful business.
I appreciate that you all use fresh ingredients. But only them don't define how dishes taste. I felt the dishes tasted like something, then I said it. It's not assumption. It's how I felt when I ate and I gave people clear image of how I felt. It was the review after all. Also, I forgot to talk about the noodles (bánh phở). It was too thick and hard and it tasted like dry noodles bought from Spar that was undercooked.
And I had amazing dishes with half of waiting time in an as-busy Vietnamese restaurant in other country. I hope you improve. Your restaurant represents great images of Việt Nam in Slovenia and I hope the food will...
Read moreVery slow service. We waited for more than an hour to get our drinks, let alone our starters or main courses. Prices are a bit high for the amount of food you get. Also, the room could be a bit warmer. After about an hour of waiting we got out "lemongrass tea" but what we got were just store bought teabags. For a starter we ordered shrimp summer rolls. For 3.5 EUR we got two rolls cut into 6 pieces. They were pretty bland and tasteless, mostly containing rice noodles, lettuce, a small piece of pineapple and a part of a small shrimp. Even the sauce was lacking in flavor. We though we would get the traditional peanut sauce with our rolls, but what we got was some vinegar with garlic. After waiting for 15 mins more we got our main courses which was their beef pho. The soup and the beef were once more pretty bland, mostly just spicy because of the ginger. I was shocked at the difference in the amount of ingredients we got in our soups. While my girlfriend's soup was well filled with rice noodles, sprouts and a few pieces of beef, mine was mostly clear with maybe half of the noodles and meat. We left the place with bored tastebuds and empty stomachs spending about 20 EUR for the meal. I'm sad to say, I wouldn't recommend this place and will not return again...
Read moreI visited this little quaint Vietnamese restaurant with my sister and her boyfriend who are both vegan and really care about what they eat, so I just had to try out this restaurant which they apparently tried so many times already they tried each and every vegan dish they had. The menu is large and covers vegetarian, vegan and meat dishes, you also have Vietnamese finger food and a kind of summer roll filled not with rice but rice noodles which give these rolls a special texture. I personally ate a traditional Vietnamese curry with rice and it was great along with the summer rolls and a green tea drink imported directly from Vietnam. The only problem with the green tea drink was that I couldn't read any of the labels, but it was good nevertheless. If you're ever in Maribor and want something else more extravagant to eat Ngon is the place for you! It's also near all the important landmarks in Maribor so you'll never be far away from seeing something interesting...
