This boutique hotel has two locations but only one place where you can check-in (called the City Apartments near the main plaza). I checked in then had to walk about 2-3 minutes on a one-way cobble stone alley to get to my room in the Garden Rooms about 1.5 blocks away from the front desk. This area of town is mostly for pedestrians. You have to make special arrangements, in advance, with the hotel if you need to bring your car near the hotel. ||Called the Garden Rooms, I assume, because there is a charming small garden past the front entrance. Small but very tranquil. A good place to sit and read a book or have coffee or tea while listening to the nice water fountain at its center. Since it only opened in 2018, things are still new and in good working order. It is only a stone throw from the white swan filled River Drava, you can access it in just one minute from your room.||The entrance had clear glass doors that should open when you swipe your room card over the sensor but it didn’t work for any of the people who tried it the same time I did. Someone had to go back to the main office, while we kept an eye on luggage, to alert them of the problem. Meanwhile, somebody forced the doors open so all could go in (I would’ve been afraid of breaking the glass doing what that person did to force the doors open). Since it seemed to be a recurring problem, these doors were eventually left open (not so secure anymore) for a while. ||The rooms are the smallest I’ve seen in my three weeks of traveling in Slovenia but very comfortable. The ceiling is partly slanted. Good thing I am short. A bottle of complimentary wine awaits you. ||Not staffed after check-in hours but has an easy way to send code/information via phone for a late check-ins. ||You have to walk back to the main part of the hotel for breakfast where the food and coffee were some of the best I had, this whole three week trip in Slovenia. Omelet with veggies, chocolate croissants, yogurts, fruits, overnight oats, all sublime, fresh, tasty. ||Being a bit further, it seemed the Garden Rooms were quieter than the City Apartments, away from the central plaza where all the action is. When I was there, police were everywhere because of some race as well as a drag queen festival that, unfortunately, attracted a lot of skinheads. Portions of the city were closed off for security reason but where the hotel is located wasn’t affected by that.||The staff was super welcoming and kind. The food brilliant. Highly recommended if you don’t mind small rooms. A note that Maribor is considered the sunniest city in Slovenia, the weather, while there, didn’t...
Read moreHonesty is important. We expect businesses we deal with to be honest about the products and services they sell. That’s how we’re able to make informed decisions. Hotel Maribor is not an honest business and so book there at your own risk. Among the amenities the hotel advertises is air conditioning. They even have modern-looking thermostats in the rooms that APPEAR to be the point from which the A/C is controlled. After a sleepless first night in our ridiculously warm room, we learned that the thermastats have no impact on the room temperature. The hotel maintains complete control over the temperature. If that’s not bad enough, though the hotel keeps its guest for controlling the temperature, it appears that their system for controlling the temperature is faulty. We spoke to the staff multiple times about adjusting the temperature and they claimed they were trying, but couldn’t. Finally, they told us they couldn’t do anything about it. They also told us they couldn’t put us in a different room because “all rooms were having the same issue.” So, we endured a warm room w/no A/C for 3 nights. You might think the hotel would feel that they needed to do something, anything to make up for such an inconvenience? Nope. When we checked out, not only was there no accommodation offered, there was only a lukewarm apology from a truly unpleasant staff member. What’s more…we were also informed that ours was the only room that experienced the A/C issue. So, were they lying...
Read moreVery nice apartment, clean, spacious and well equipped. But there are some silly rules that I find it unexceptable. They offer 4 coffees capsules, bottle of water per stay so it doesn’t matter how many days or months u stay they only welcome you the first night. So I raised this problem to the manager, she basically said it is they rules and they have been doing this for years never have a problem! So I asked if I do separate booking every nights we would get this complimentary right ? And she said yes! So I find this very stupid and I asked her back how many coffee you drink per days ? And if u smoke how many cigarettes per day? She was listen but with no empathy. Anyway I suggested her that the coffee capsules cost nothing charge into the room rate but this silly rules will coz more unsatisfactory from the customers because I do believe people who stay here, have money to spend we actually went to their chain restaurant in town as well and it was good. We got the complimentary coffee at the end but I don’t think she listened to my constructive critic. Anyway I think this is important for some of u travel...
