I can say that when someone mentions the city of Sarajevo... my mind doesn't go to the Sač or Željo I automatically think of the cheese pie from Saraj. I ate this pie from Constantinople to Berlin but here is always something special for me.
When I'm in Ljubljana I always try to find time to take home a croissant from Ana bakery and at least a pie from Saraj. Even if it is cold it retains all its juiciness as if it had just been taken out of the oven.
Unfortunately it wasn't that long ago when I paid for this pie a little over 5 euros then 7 and now 9. I don't mind the price as long as it doesn't show on the quality of the composition but I'm afraid that it will give more attention to the tourist who visits it maybe once and loses a simple man who will reach for a copy past pie from a bakery's that grow like mushrooms after rain .
I'm sad when one of the good restaurants quickly become a smaller canteen only for the journey of hunger and where you actually don't even remember the food anymore. Personally for me when talking about baščaršia and the big market in Istanbul you no longer add: oh how I would like to eat that pie from Saraj now.
Probably a crisis has come to visit here as well, which is affecting a good staff in the kitchen. I have to say that next time I would very much like your čevapčići to be juicy again and not a dark burnt.
Today, unfortunately, everything was black.
If someone were to visit this restaurant for the first time today they would probably give it 0 star. Personally I probably wouldn't even mention it because I think that some things don't even deserve to be mentioned.
But because of all the goodies I've eaten here I believe that you will also correct this minor mistake in a short time.
Be that Saraj again that is mentioned at least from Goricko to Piran. Everything else comes with...
Read moreWe came here because we wanted to try some traditional Balkan food. We had seen the reviews, but we thought: hey, let’s give it a try, why not!
Service: Good. The waiter was kind and friendly.
Atmosphere: Quiet, with a traditional Balkan touch.
Parking: Plenty of spaces in front of the restaurant. It’s paid parking, but if you eat there you can give your ticket to the server to get it stamped and it becomes free.
Food we had:
Mixed Grill – Delicious, but 25€ for what I would call a child-sized portion. It doesn’t come with any side dish, not even bread. You have to pay extra for every side, which makes it very overpriced.
Stuffed peppers and other stuffed vegetables with meat – Portion was reasonable, price reasonable, but the taste wasn’t very fresh. I know this dish well, as it’s traditional in my country too, so I can tell the difference.
Grilled peppers with garlic and cheese – The menu says they are stuffed with cheese, but in reality it’s just cheese poured on top. 8€ for two small-to-medium peppers is definitely overpriced.
Lemonade – 3€, fair price and good quantity.
Caffè latte – 4.50€, reasonable-to-slightly overpriced, but good quantity.
Kaimac – 3€, a bit overpriced.
Bread – 2€ per piece, very small portion.
Would I recommend this restaurant? Honestly, 50/50.
I travel a lot in Slovenia, Croatia, and Bosnia, so I know what traditional food and prices should be like—just so nobody thinks I don’t know what I’m...
Read moreBest in Slovenia! We are US tourists who have been in Slovenia for a week. Many of the restaurants have been hit or miss, but this place was by far the best food we had on our trip. The place says it is Bosnian food (I am not familiar enough to know how true it is), but everything appeared made by hand and super-fresh! Great meat, great veggies, great bread. Friendly service that doesn’t speak much English but had an enthusiastic attitude so we had no problems (the menu is in English, Slovenian, and a third language I did not recognize). A huge menu was available. We went with the Meat Pot (which struck me as a traditional cooking approach for leftovers and tasted great!). We also had meatballs and stuffed peppers. Plus hand made shredded chicken soup. I cannot say enough about this place. Prices were reasonable, 8 euros for soups and 16 for meatballs. The meal portions were huge (actually a problem for us as we like to order multiple items and share, but we barely ate half our food!). The building from the Main Street doesn’t look like much, but the main part is in the back. It has plenty of parking and is a little oasis of plants back there. Great atmosphere! I usually don’t write this much for a review, but this was the best place we have been in a week of vacation, so it deserves...
