News Cafe Fourways — Restaurant in Gauteng

This was my first time returning to a News Cafe in over 10years, and man, was I highly disappointed or maybe my expectations were just too high.

The drinks were extremely underwhelming; honestly, I make better cocktails at home. I ordered a Pornstar Martini that tasted like it was mixed with orange juice (or some cheap alternative), followed by a tequila-based cocktail that was just as disappointing. Whether it’s the quality of the cordials and syrups or the skill of the mixologists, the cocktails I had simply tasted like a huge disappointment. The sushi was decent, though nothing to rave about. Had a pretty disappointing experience at News Café, especially with a staff member named Gift. He practically forced me to tip him at the end of the night even going as far as saying it was embarrassing that I didn’t. Tipping should be an option, not something that’s pushed on people. It’s supposed to be about the experience, not about making someone uncomfortable.

If people want to tip cool, but if they don’t, that’s their choice. I hope management takes note and makes it clear to staff that forcing someone into doing something like that is not okay.
