Ocean Basket Rosebank — Restaurant in Gauteng

Visited Ocean Basket Rosebank for lunch on 15 July 2025. It was our first time at this branch and we were really looking forward to it after travelling almost an hour from the East Rand to enjoy a day out with the kids.

The food was typical Ocean Basket quality. We had prawns, sole, and fish nuggets. It was okay — nothing special but decent. Portion sizes were fair. No sides or desserts. The real letdown was the service.

From the moment we walked in, there was no welcome. The manager seemed flustered and disorganised, walking around aimlessly. We seated ourselves and eventually received menus in bits with no greeting or courtesy. After a long wait, I had to flag down a waiter to take our order. Even then, people who arrived after us were served before us. When I followed up, our food came out shortly after.

The restaurant was clean enough and the open plan layout is nice. Parking at Rosebank Mall was easy. But none of that makes up for the poor service. Staff seemed overwhelmed and uncoordinated. I was hesitant to tip but did anyway out of courtesy.

I will not be returning. After such a long drive, I expected a good experience, especially since halal Ocean Basket branches are limited on the East Rand. Sadly, this visit was a disappointment. I would not recommend this branch to others. The team needs retraining and better management to ensure guests are treated with care and...

Visited ocean basket at Rosebank for dinner. Absolutely disgusting and pathetic service! Upon entry, there was no friendly welcome and greeting by any staff members. We had to try and get the attention of a waiter to get a seat. The manager looked disorganised and confused and furthermore they were not busy. Thereafter the waiter leaves the table unattended to and we waited 20 minutes to be served with numerous tries of tracking down a waiter to place an order. The waiter finally attended to us, and brought us uncooked rolls as part of the table set-up, which they normally do. I then notified the waiter that the rolls are uncooked and with her arrogance and rude attitude, she broke open the rolls in from of our faces, messing the tables, telling me is this "raw" and walked off to get new rolls. We immediately cancelled our order and left the restaurant. The manager said he would address the matter with his staff, but I doubt that was even done!

I have been to many ocean baskets, but have never experienced such poor and pathetic service. This is by far the worst ocean basket I have been to and will never step foot in that...

Went for dinner there a week and a half ago. Firstly the order took forever to come, we sat at a table, no table Cloth or even the ocean basket paper cover. When we received the order, my fish was over grilled, dry and oily at the bottom, a little brownish colour. My calamari was deep fried, although I requested grilled. I continue to eat my fish and left the calamari aside. Complained to the waitress, she did then replaced it with the grilled calamari. I requested to see the manager, waited 15 minutes and he didn't show. I decided to leave for home and disgusted with the service. Reached home and started feeling nauseas, threw up the whole night, guess it was food poisoning. Also went there on another day prior to my above experience, my sons and my fish tasted not so great, actually was stale. We decided to give it another try but was disappointed again. Not ever visiting the Rosebank...
